Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics [Cat. 2]
Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
The 2nd contest of the season will be about Benelux Cobbled Classics. You are called to re-invent the following classics
You have to deliver two routes, one for the Men's races and one for the Women's races with classics inserted in that order.
Deadline will be saturday march 21, 2020 h 23.59
The 2nd contest of the season will be about Benelux Cobbled Classics. You are called to re-invent the following classics
- Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
- Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne
- Ronde Van Drenthe
- De Panne Classic
- E3 Harelbeke
- Gent-Wevelgem
- Dwaars Door Vlaanderen
- Ronde Van Vlaanderen
- General
- All classics must start and finish into different cities from the original ones. 2019 cities are the one for reference.
- You can change names of the classics that contains a city in the name, changing the city
- You can use cities in 'other' classics, example Ypres cannot be used in Gent-Wevelgem (as it's start) but can be used in Ronde Van Drenthe
- You are not asked to keep the same zone, but classics should be entirely be in Benelux
- There should be at least three finishes in Netherlands
- Classics should present the same or at least similar characteristics of the original ones
- Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
- Race is intended to be a lighter version of the Ronde. Should be won by people that usually places in top 20-25 of Ronde, not cutting them out. Should not be for pure sprinters (like Viviani). Distance not more than 210 Km.
- Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne
- Race should have a middle section with cobbled bergs for attacks, then a final circuit that put sprinters back in field, giving them 60-70% chances to win the race.
- Ronde Van Drenthe
- It's a sprinter race with some cobbled sections sprinters have less chances than in Kuurne and present no bergs.
- De Panne Classic
- Pure sprinter race.
- E3 Harelbeke
- Race more similar to a Ronde. Harder than Omloop but easier than Ronde.
- Gent-Wevelgem
- It's a race in which pure sprinters can have a 50-50% chance with attackers.
- Dwaars Door Vlaanderen
- It's a <200 Km race that present some climbs but only few cobbled so climbers like Valverde can make a top 10-15. Sprinters are definitely taken out of the field
- Ronde Van Vlaanderen
- Think there is nothing to explain here. It's THE monument. It's forbbidden to re-propose the old Ronde Finish with Muur and Bosberg
You have to deliver two routes, one for the Men's races and one for the Women's races with classics inserted in that order.
Deadline will be saturday march 21, 2020 h 23.59

Re: Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
I don't understand the meaning of this sentence. “There should be at least three finishes in Netherlands”. Only the Ronde Van Drenthe is disputed in the Netherlands.

Re: Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
That's the point of the whole contest: you have to change zones of some races. There are also cobbles and small climb in some Netherlands zone.

Am I allowed to add 2 or 3 gravel sectors in my Dwars door Vlaanderen version?

Re: Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
Here are my races (at the first link you will find the men's races, at the second the women's races).
Women's races offer a slightly modified version of men's races
I was unable to insert passages in the Netherlands (apart from Van Drenthe, of course), too far from the territories where the Flemish races are held.
The cobblestone sectors present are not marked (excluding that of the Dutch race)

Re: Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
Yes, but it made no sense to draw a Flemish line race with passes in the Netherlands, which are very far from Flanders. It meant inserting useless walls at the start, then long flat stretches towards Flanders and sacrificing traditional walls.

Re: Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
Races like de Panne, Kuurne Drenthe and Dwars door Vlaanderen are easily doable in the Netherlands as they don’t have to pass through Flanders. It doesn’t state anywhere the race has to be in the same region. Additionally you’re routes aren’t complant with the rules as you aren’t allowed to start nor finish in the towns/cities the races actually start in in real life. I’m bot trying to be mean or roasting you or anything, I’m just trying to help and I’m sorry if it seems like I’m angry or mean.

Re: Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
Here is my two Benelux Cobbled Classics. It take me time but i think i respect all instructions.
Mens Classics : maps/tours/view/13962
Womens Classics : maps/tours/view/13963
Présentation Men's Benelux Cobbled Classice
Het Audenaarde
Gent-Ninove becomes Bruxelles Audenaarde. And the Mur de Grammont-Bosberg sequence leaves its role as a decisive duo to the Eikenberg (1.4km at 4.4% paved) and the Kattenberg (600m paved to 7.7%). At the top, there will be 19km of flat to reach Audenaarde. In total, 11 mountains including 4 paving stones and a total of 13.9 km of paving stones.
Tournai-Audenaarde-Tournai
Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne becomes Tournai-Audenaarde-Tournai. And with that, the change is total. With the exception of the Taaienberg and Vieux Quaremont in the first part of the race, these are new paved climbs that the runners will face, like Mont Saint-Aubert, the last paved climb of the day. With 12 mountains in the first 137 km, you will have to be offensive to avoid a massive finish, with 44 km to finish favorable for the return of the sprinters.
Ronde van Zwolle
Zuidwolde-Hoogeveen becomes Essen-Zwolle. The peloton will find in the first part real paved, difficult sectors, the same as those schedule on the Ronde van Drenthe. But then, they will take the direction of Zwolle, with 12 new "cobbled" sectors but relatively simple because it's city cobblestones. We will also have to climb the Hellenberg three times (600m at 4.7%).
Classic du Helder
Brugge-De Panne becomes Alkmaar-Le Helder. Unlike the 2019 edition, there are no paving stones on the program, but a road that runs very first along the seaside, with the risks of borders that result from it. The riders will enter the final circuit 94.5 km from the finish and make three loops of a completely flat circuit before playing for victory on the Helder coast.
GP Waregem BinckBank Classic
Harelbeke-Harelbeke becomes La Panne-Waregem. Three kilometers and one more paved sector but four fewer climbs on the program compared to 2019. As is his usual role, it is a perfect preamble to the Tour of Flanders by taking a good part of the final. This is how the riders can test themselves on the Koppenberg and Eikenberg, both of which are key in the final of the Ronde. For the rest, 5 of the 11 paved areas are located more than 90km from the finish. But the rest is never flat ...
Charleroi-Maastricht
Deinze-Wevelgem becomes Charleroi-Maastricht. This is one of the two classics whose geographical location I radically change. Exit Flanders and hello to Wallonia and Dutch Limburg. With 40 km of flat to finish, the sprinters will have their chance, if the fight does not start too early. Because, with 12 climbs and 7 paved sectors listed, there will be enough to avoid a sprint. Mythical cobblestone hill from Gent-Wevelgem, the Kemmelberg is replaced in its role of double ascent by Rue Naniot (1000m paved at 8.3%) in Liège. Before running to
Maastricht where the arrival will be located.
Dwaars von Ninove
Roeselare-Waregem becomes Mouscron-Ninove. A generally busy classic since it goes from 11 climbs to 18, even if the number of paved sectors decreases (5 against 6 before). The race will therefore be even more favorable to punchers, with a multitude of small ascents, most of them located more than 30kms from the finish, enough to force non-Flanders punchers to anticipate. Because the final, with the Wall of Grammont, is not as favorable to them.
Ronde von Zottegem
Antwerpen-Oudenaarde becomes Gand-Zottegem. 264km on the program, punctuated by 19 climbs and 17 paved sectors. Vieux Quaremont-Paterberg leaves its place of key of the Ronde to the sequence Taaienberg-Eikenberg, which will have to be done twice, including the last in the terrible final. It will all start at Vieux Quaremont, 36km from the finish. Behind is the Paterberg (33km from the finish), the Koppenberg (27.5km), the Mariaborresstraat (23km), the Taaienberg (21km) and therefore the Eikenberg (16.5km), the last difficulty of this Tour des Flanders.
Présentation of Women will follow soon...

I made it my own challenge to make every race have its key-parts in a different region, so a lot of these classics have completely different climbs/cobbles than they do in real life.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the races I made.

Re: Contest #2 - Benelux Cobbled Classics
Here are my routes for contest 2
I'm thankful for you including women's cycling as it goes underappreciated. I'm also happy you let the challenge stand despite some people whining about not knowing anything about women's races
Men's Races: maps/tours/view/14128
Women's Races: maps/tours/view/14129
~~~~~~~Omloop het Volk~~~~~~~
The first part of the stage allows long range attacks before we reach the finale where the real race begins. It allows a bit of the same scenario as this year's Omloop. Women's race has a calmer start but a similar finale.
~~~~~~~Waterloo-Geraardsbergen-Waterloo~~~~~~~
We all know Waterloo, wether from Napoleon or ABBA, but now we'll race there. It features unknow cobbles and climbs and a flat finale, typical KBK. The finale looks harder than it is.
~~~~~~~Ronde van Zeeland~~~~~~~
It looks like I used way less cobbles than de Ronde van Drenthe, but I actually used more as most "cobbled sectors" in Drenthe are brick roads you barely feel when riding over it. A lot of cobbles but not too hard.
~~~~~~~Ronde van Groningen~~~~~~~
The De Panne substite. Nothin Nothing, Nothing, Cobbles, Nothing and a sprint in the end. I chose this region because it's my home region and we don't have a proffesional men's race here. The Cobbled sector is easy enough for everyone to survive but I needed to add a little spring classic flavour to the race. The finish is tricky as it goes slightly uphill (not more than 2%, don't worry) untill it flattens out towards the finish.
~~~~~~~E3 BinckBank Classic~~~~~~~
Cobbles and loads of uncobbled hills with a long flat uncobbled road to the finish, that is how I designed my E3 BinckBank Classic.
~~~~~~~In Flanders Fields Classic~~~~~~~
My Gent-Wevelgem interpretation, "De Kemmel" is still in there with some dirt roads as irl. Hills and cobbles in the middle and then a long long road to the finish.
~~~~~~~Dwars door de Ardennen~~~~~~~
Dwars door Vlaanderen but in the Ardennes. We were tasked with creating race that should fit both classics riders as someone like Valverde. I was allowed to put in 2 or 3 gravel sectors and I did, but cobbles aren't forgotten, loads of cobbles in Liège and Maastricht.
~~~~~~~De Ronde van Vlaanderen~~~~~~~
De Ronde has arrived, sadly not irl though. Loads of cobbles south of Oudenaarde with the finish in Zottegem as I used Ronse for de Omloop. The Women's race looks way less hard than the men's but that is also because of the length of the race.
