Choosing a top 5 was very difficult since there were a lot of good entries

5th place: DavandLuz
I like the build up of the tour and the first week.
However the finish on a single long ascend is used a bit too often.

4th place: Joostvandebeek
The route was very interesting especially the last week, and without any large transfers.
I would have liked to see a bit more TT kilometers and too many high mountain stages in the first week imo.

3rd place: improb
Really good route and pacing between flat, medium mountain and high mountain stages.
Liked the last week, however the final TT just isn't my favourite.
The #1 and #2 were just slightly better imo

2nd place: taaramae_crack
Great route and really like the long TT. The reasoning and presentation were a great addition.
It's just that the #1 route spoke to me a biit more.

1st place: Pincoletto
The pacing was just really great from the start. With the difficult last week and my favourite long TT.
The last 2 mountain stages have possibilities for long range and high climbs really gives opportunities and riders that can collapse.
Just my favourite tour.

First of all: Almost every route was great in it's own way. So it came down to a matter of taste.

5th place: Piet_Agoras: No long transfers exept the Paris one, I love the Verdon stage! But I miss a classic mountain stage in the end. Terminillo is a but boring in my opinion. TT is nice.

4th place: Mauro: I like the end in de Vosges and the tour has some great, tricky, mountain stages.

3rd place: ColDuRosier: I see some similarity to my Tour, which makes it a great one. :asd:

2nd place: taaramae_crack: A really great GT. I love the Ordesa-finish and the possibility to some long range attacks in the Vaujaney-stage.

1st place: improb: Almost everything is perfect. Great variation in stages, some new climbs en some classic climbs. Nice finals.

Thanks for all of your great Grand-Tours!

1st place: Taaramae_crack
A well-balanced tour. I would love to see that Spanish dirt stage happening. Ballsy to start the tour so far south in Spain, but you solved that problem very nicely.

2nd place: Improb
The UNESCO view on things works for me. A lot of lesser known climbs is also a big plus. Makes everything a bit more unpredictable.

3rd place: Brumdog66
You kept the transfers down nicely. Your last few stages are inviting for a long finale. Also nice that the tour isn't stuck in the Alps for its mountain conclusion.

4th place: Joostvandebeek
Although the stages as such are very appealing, the amount of high mountains in the first week seems a bit too much. Still loved the other stages, so a couple of points for that.

5th place: Jibvalverde
Compact tour with few transfer kilometres, which is still something that a lot of participants haven't done right and still got points for. Would be higher up if more regions of the 3 countries were crossed.

I have to admit that there was too many routes for me to analyze each one in details, so first impression was very important. As always I will mostly complain about your routes here, but this routes are very good and fact that there is only one or two complains should confirm that. This is my top5:

5th place - Jekp
Very very nice balance between organizers. First days are great - every stage is different, deliver different type of emotions and leader jersey would travel from hand to hand every day. In general I very like stages separately but you went too far away in setting hard mountains on finish lines in my opinion - I would like to see stage with three 1st category mountain and finish after descent or something like this instead of next top finish.

4th place - Xander66
2 of 7 stages in France are time trails? I don't like it. And fact that two the hardest stages are two last (except Paris) can froze race a little.

3rd place - AntoineVds
Just very good. As it's legal in our rules, i'm not a fan of finishing on almost 2300 in Alps in september.

2rd place - Carlo33
One flat stage instead of next high mountain nad little more kilometers of ITT - those two thing would give you 1st place in my ranking. Now I see your tour a little unbalanced as stages separately looks very very nice.

1st place - Kanon16
Satisfaction for every orginzaers - that's the key of this route. One thing that I don't like so much is 3 ITT stage (anyway, there is one for each country which is nice) and fact that all of them are flat - I would prefer to make one of them harder. Of course, as it's 1st place, stages are very well designed.

Fifth place: Ellvey - It's a correct Tour, but you could've been a bit more original in some of the stages, other were fine, and I have to say I liked very much your 20th stage, one of the best of the contest to be honest. Fauniera stage (or just Esischie as it was your case) was also good, but I don't know if the climb could be in good conditions for a race. Even though, I didn't like the fact that you started in Portugal because if the idea was combining the three Tours for every country to have a bit of presence, you are throwing away 2 of just 7 days of one of the countries to have the chance of showing. This is a very personal opinion, so I didn't take it too much into account, but just saying ;)

Fourth place: Pincoletto - As Ellvey's one, I think your Tour is quite correct and with almost any big mistake. As you tried to innovate something more, fourth place is yours. The only problem I see lies one the last mountain block. The three of your stages are individually quite good, but you ordered them from smoother to harder, and it could block many attacks, specially in the Grand Bornard stage, that has a really nice course for lang-range attacks, but with that superhard 20th stage, it would be difficult to see something.

Third place: Jadmeal - For me, you did one of the best first weeks of the contest, the rest of the race looses a little bit, but it's a good work though. Last two stages are really strange (but not bad), 19th could be one of the best cycling shows ever or a big disappointment, depending on what riders do on Finestre. It's a risky bet, but I like those ones :D . And La Mure stage, something of the same, but here I have to say that I'm not really sure about if Col du Solude is an actually feasible climb, it's very narrow through all the first part (but I recognise it would be really nice see a race going in there), but, as far as I know, the dirt part on the top is not in very good conditions.

Second place: Improb - You could've been fighting for the first place, but I saw some little mistakes that probably took me to put you just here. First of all, I want to congratulate you for the good race you designed, specially in the first week, where you pass through some really interesting places, even though it's a bit too hard for me. About the mistakes I said before, for example, in the Atapuerca stage, you finish in the parking of it (as it could seem logical), but that implies a 180 degrees turn at 300-400 m to the finish in a sprint stage, it could be very dangerous !! Other things I saw were, for example, in the Finestre stage, I'm not sure if the Colle Agnelli climb is really in enough good conditions to be climbed; and in the Muskilda and Barrage des Gloriettes, I don't think that there's enough space in the top of the last climbs to place the finish line and all that it suppose.

Ps: WTF is that last circuit in Paris?? :?:

First place: Anderson - Very impressive race, congratulations !! You did almost any mistake and a great selection of the places where the race passes, and that's something I really value, because is part of the esence of a cycling race. In general it is very good, but mountain stages are maybe a bit smooth and short, but they all have a really good design, that's what counteracts it in part. Here I would like to remark the Larrau stage, it's fine, but you had many possibilities in the zone for making a harder and nicer stage, even if it's not bad at all.

My vote for the Grand Tour of the Grand Tours contest:

1st place - Brumdog66
The winner! I love the fact that you end the race in an area where no one else ends his race. Another positive: short transfers, but still covering a lot of regions in all 3 countries. The only negative point: your 1st stage might be too chaotic.

2nd place - taaramae_crack
I looked at your map and had a smile on my face. You covered a lot of unknown and neglected areas like Extremadura. A lot of interesting and different terrains. Only negative: Italy gets the most mountain stages. You cuold have spread them a bit more.

3rd place - Arnorius
Good positioning of the mountain stages (weekends), I really like Col de la Loze and Alpe de Siusi as MTFs. Unfortunately some longer transfers between stages.

4tn place - Xander66
Unfortunately not much mountain stages in French territory which makes the race boring in the 2nd week. The decisive stages are almost completely in Italy which doesn't help the idea of "3-countries-Grand-Tour". But you used interesting finish locations like Picon Blanco and Mont Lozére.

5th place - Pincoletto
Some new finish locations like Botella and Mont Faron, race can be lost up to the last day. I don't like that French stages are spread all over the race, especially Start and Finish. You didn't cover much areas of Spain (only north east) and Italy (only north west) which is a bit sad.

5th place - Brumdog66 : probably the tour with most creative layout.

4th place - Piet_Agoras : a very nice tour with a lot of good stages, but i don't like the last week in Lazio.

3rd place - Mike2496 : fantastic mountain stages, especially Aprica and Obereggen.

2nd place - Diego12Alpe : a very good and balanced tour, the stage of Les Arcs 1800 is one of the best in the contest.

1st place - Taaramae_Crack : my favorite tour, with a pretty combination of stages for sprinters, finisseurs and climbers.

My votes:

5th place: Ellvey

Nice route, i like the second half of the race better theand the first.

4th place: Niekey

I love hard mountain stages and you have got several great ones. Could have plages you higher but i have Three Tours i like even more.

3rd place : Davandluz

Good Balance from the the start. Good job

2nd place: Col du Rosier

Again a well balanced route, for me the highligt of the tour is the Mount Ventoux stage

1st place: Pincoletto

I really like your route, it has good variation in the first week and give both the sprintere and climbers possibilities througout the tour.

Didn’t have Much spare time to analyse the routes and make up my opinion. To chose i picked out the routes that avoided long transfer the most, than i looked at profiler and chose the ones i thought was best balanced and most interresting

5th place: Mike2496
Route doesn’t provide long range attacks but the rest is ok

4th place: Pontix
Good route, but not exciting in the weekends

3rd place: Joostvandebeek
You consistently deliver great races every contest and this one is no exception. Someone else said the Col de Tende is impossible, but it isn’t and I really like it

2nd place: Improb
Really exciting race. Love it. ITT is a but too long

1st place: Taaramae_Crack
I really really really like your route, once again delivering a great route. Only downside is that Lac d’Aumar isn’t allowed to have a stage finished due to some laws

FIRST PLACE - Brumdog66

This Tour has got it all. It seems I had quite similar criteria to Ellvey in judging this contest :p

I agree with all he said about your race. The Torello stage with Coll de Bracons is great and so is the Rat de Penat climb as the first MTF and the Cuenca stage. Stage 8 to 14 are good (I appreciate Pian del Re as it's mostly a new climb), not great, not bad. But stage 15 onwards, well, it's perfection. The Abetone is the best designed queen stage of all the contests and Chieti is the best 20th stage of the race. It pushes riders to attack from far out to give us one last spectacle.

Some of the flat stage are too pancake flat though. That's the only con but it matters very little as riders need some rest. I hope you win this contest RULOZ

SECOND PLACE - Ellvey

Many great stages but two stages in Portugal are probably too much in a year where Spain is gonna get very few stages overall. It seems we kind of followed the same parcours and I really like your ideas. The Tirano stage is spectacular and so is the trio of stages at the end of the second week. Basically, your big con is stage 2 as well as stage 20 being not being up to par (it's good but I think you should have just finished in Luino after Forcorella di Marzio)

THIRD PLACE - Nieky

The Sardegna start is great and so is the inclusion of Corsica. Stage 1, 3 and 4 are very good. The Bergamo ITT is also a masterpiece but Mortirolo in a first week stage is a no for me. That's how a hilly time trial is done. Stage 10 is very good but I don't like it being just before Mont Ventoux as it probably kills any chance of attacks before the last climb. The second ITT is also very good, both design and location wise. Wandering at Barcelona's beauty is enough to entertain the public even if the ITT is boring. Stage 15 onwards, it's great although stage 19 (maybe the best of the Tour) risks ending up wasted as riders will focus on the Tourmalet.

FOURTH PLACE - Pincoletto

Very good second week. 11, 13, 14 (the Passo San Marco/Pescegallo duo rocks RULES ) and 15 are all great stages. The trio of stages at the end of the second weekend is also great, especially the Girona stage and I think, the Col de Botella, is the perfect end of first week climb. The third week I don't like as much as there are three back to backs hard mountain stages. Also, the route comes out as unbalanced due to so many mountain stages and so little ITTs.

FIFTH PLACE - DavandLuz

Last but not least, it's DavandLuz with a textbook perfect first week (Javalambra and Tuixent are the perfect 1st week MTF and Bagneres de Bigorre keeps things varied as well as the breakaway stage to Reus). Second week has a very good stage 13. The last week is decent, even though stage 19 may end up being wasted (I think it could have seen GC attacks if not for Mortirolo the day after). What I don't like is all those flat stages on weekends.

Honourable mentions: JibiValverde (whose route was my 2nd favourite but he made a mistake). The gravel stage has two unrideable sectors. Jibi Valverde has a sector after the Baransoain gravel https://ibb.co/XLQK27k which is basically dirt in really bad conditions as well as the last Calle Iparralde sector https://ibb.co/G972bgX. I think if you finished in Tafalla, the stage would have been perfect and so would have your Tour

Taaramae Crack also made another great race, one thing doesn't appear clear to me though. Most of the gravel sections are not on Google Maps and I can't judge if they are rideable or not. There's just a small bit of the last section on Google Maps and the descent looks fiiine but at the top of the climb, it looks like this (https://ibb.co/ckJzP5q) which looks kinda borderline rideable.

To decide my votes I made a first selection based on the general map and my first impressions. That left me with 8 or 9 routes, and then I just had to look a bit more into the details, and this is what came out eventually:

5th place: sportdani19
Not every stage was to my liking, but I think your tour was pretty good in general. I really enjoyed the fact that you considered to final airplane-transfer to Paris, ending in the city of Bergamo. Although the penultimate stage might not be too hard because of that, I think it could be something nice to watch.

4th place: jajoejoe
Actually this was about the only tour that started in Italy that I really enjoyed. Because of that you already deserve a spot in my top 5. You managed to keep it interesting through the entire race, which according to me was harder if you wanted to go from Italy and end in Spain.

3rd place: Brumdog66
A lot of things I did really like, also some choices I liked less. I think your ITT’s could be in a better spot in the Tour, even though the stages itself are pretty nice. Also the final stage in Italy is not really to my liking. I think it’s not hard enough for a final mountain stage, you could’ve added some more hills (or another Blockhaus?) and added some more distance in that way. But all-in-all this was a great Tour.

2nd place: taaramae_crack
Probably the Tour with the best stages, but that doesn’t make it the best Tour yet. I think every stage in itself is great, a lot of nice climbs and decent tracks, but put them together and your tour might be a bit too hard. A GC-fight would be great with these stages, but in the back a lot of riders would be struggling day after day.

1st place: Piet_Agoras
Really going from Madrid to Rome was one thing, keeping it interesting all the way was another. And I think you did pretty well. I can’t say I would always make the same choices, but I did like your route. I didn’t see anything that was a real problem to me, so I think you really deserve this first spot.

The Paris circuit is different from the original. It includes the Rue du Trocadero climb (basically 0,3 Kms at 6,5/7%), then passes by the Arc du Triomphe and finishes on Champs Elysees with the Arc just behind.

As for the Muskilda and Barrage des Gloriettes finishes, the latter seems fine while Muskilda is bordeline (I was undecided myself). The Vuelta a Navarra does finish there but it's another level of race. If there's an organizer that can pull if off tho, it's Unipublic as they've finished in places as narrow such as Los Muchachos and La Camperona.

You're right about the Atapuerca stage being dangerous, though.
