- You must end in center Italy, preferably on Adriatico
- Col d'Eze must be inserted in the route with Nice hosting a stage finish
- The six stages before Thursday 8 must be set ALL in France, the six stages after Thursday 8 must be set ALL in Italy
- You had to take into account that race are settled in early march, so, for example, there is snow limit. You have to avoid high altitudes. You cannot go above 1700 meters in French stages and 1800 meters in Italian stages.
- You must insert at least one mountain stage in france and at least one mountain stage in italy

What do you mean "after validation"?

Well you have to click "draw profile" to get correct length. Then what is displayed is the right one

Paris Adriatico
maps/tours/view/8507

The tour features 4 sprinter stages, 6 hilly stages, 2 mountain stages ad 1 ITT. There are stages for all kind of riders, as well those who likes dirt roads. The GC shouldn't be decided before the last stages, and there are challenging stage all over the race, even though there's just two real mountain stage and 30 km of TT. The idea is letting the allrounders and fighters a chance to fight for the victory.

FRANCE:
1 Meaux > Migennes, 167,6 km (flat) - Stage for the sprinters, but some climbs during the last part of the stage, but flat last 20K may be challenging for some of the sprinters. The first half of the stage is in open fields with possibilities for cross wind.
2 Auxerre > Pont de Pany, 170,0 km (hilly) - Some challenging climbs during the last 50K. Should make a small peloton for the finishing line, or maybe a break could make it.
3 Chalon-sur-Saône > Bourgoin-Jallieu, 164,8 km (flat) - The flattest stage, and with no doubt a profile for the sprinters, if the cross wind stay away from the peloton.
4 Voiron > Nyons, 180,0 km (hilly) - Four climbs during the last 60K before the last uphill finish with 1,3 km á 5,5%. A stage for the puncheurs.
5 Vaison-la-Romaine > Vachères, 137,5 km (mountain) - The French mountain stage. There's three major climbs during the stage, but the last one is the hardest. With Chalet Reynard as the first mountain, the stage could be harder to control for the best teams and maybe figure som surprises for the GC. 135 km is not a long stage, soit should be a fast stage.
6 Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume > Nice, 214,3 km (hilly) - The Nice/Èze stage. The stage is long, and would be a minor test before the classics. The two last climbs are the hardest, and could make some time gaps.

FRANCE/MONACO/ITALY:
7 Nice > Genova, 214,5 km (flat) - The longest stage, and the only stage which crosses boarders. Milano - San Remo is not far away and why not making a stage which is similar to the monument? The course is making a loop to include Poggio, even though it's far from finish. Two small climbs during the last 30K will complete the test.

ITALY:
8 Genova > Sestri Levante, 117,7 km (hilly) - Short, but not easy. One 1st category and five 2nd. Narrow and winding roads won't make it any easier.
9 Sestri Levante > Livorno, 194,2 km (flat) - The last stage for the sprinters. The stage starts with a 2nd category, but the rest of the stage shouldn't make to big difficulties for the sprinters.
10 Livorno > Livorno, 29,5 km (ITT) - The only TT stage. The distance will make some time gaps, but the climbers still have the possibility to go for the GC. The TT is completely flat.
11 Empoli > Giaole In Chianti, 190,0 km (hilly) - The Strade Bianchi stage. Four sections of dirt road, as well as seven categorised climbs should make the stage quite interesting. Some of the GC riders have to loose the Tour during this stage.
12 Arezzo > Carpegna, 143,4 km (mountain) - The Italian mountain stage, and the last chance for the real climbers. The stage is not as hard as the French one, but the finish is even harder, and the order mountain closer to the finish. 30K of climbing during the last 70K.
13 Urbania > Porto Sant'Elpidio, 196,6 km (hilly) - The race isn't over until it's over. 3600 meters of climbing and 10 categorised climbs, as well there are several uncategorised. Scarponi will be honoured as the route pass Filottrano, but the steepest are still to climb. Muro di Sant'Elpidio a Mare is 16,7% at the steepest. The last 12K will be a chase for victory.

Hi guys,
here is my route for the Winter Stage Races Contest: maps/tours/view/8591

The race starts from Choisel (Chateau de Bretuil) with an ITT, and finishes in Ancona with another ITT, in front of the Cattedrale di San Ciriaco and the Adriatic Sea.
After the first stage, the next two stages are for the puncheurs (the second stage has some dirt roads in it), then comes the first hard mountain stage with a finish on the top of the Col du Béal. After that the peloton is heading south, with a sprint finish in Die, and than the usual stage with the Col d'Éze to Nice. Than we're going to Italy for the remaining stages: the 7th stage is a perfect training terrain for the Milano - Sanremo (the peloton climbs the Poggio and the Cipressa, but from backwards), the 8th one is like a roller coaster in the cinque terre, the 9th and the 10th are classic sprint stages, and then come the final three stages to decide the GC. The 11th is the Queen Stage, with 4 hard climbs and a finish in Monte Prata, the 12th can be good for both the classic specialists and the GC riders with some very steep short climbs like Sant Elpidio a Mare, Montelupone or the finish on the top of the Monte Conero, and than the long ITT around Ancona.

My route: maps/tours/view/8409

The first edition of Paris Adriatic will be a tough race with 5 Top arrivals, that will connect Paris to the Adriatic coast of Italy.
This race will be a battle between GC mens (2 Mountain Stages and 1 Individual Time Trial in the route), also a preparation for Milano-Sanremo (6 Hills Stages in the route) and a good chance for sprinters (4 Sprint Stages in the route).

Stage 1 (Flat) - Évry > Avallon
The first stage of the Paris Adriatic will be a day dedicated to sprinters. It will start from Évry, a city on South Paris, to arrive to Avallon passing through the central zone of France.
Image

Stage 2 (Hill) - Pouilly-en-Auxois > Lyon
The second stage will be the longest of the Paris Adriatic (209 Km) and it will be the first opportunity to animate the race with the two final ascents to precede the arrive on top of the Colline de Fourvière on Lyon, in front of the La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière.
Image

Stage 3 (Flat) - Lyon > Orange
The third stage will be the second chance of victory for the sprinters; the departure will take place in Lyon and it will proceed south until the arrival in the center of Orange.
Image

Stage 4 (Mountain) - Avignon > Chalet Reynard
The fourth day will be that of the French mountain stage; 152 kilometers that will bring the group from Avignon to the top finish of Chalet Reynard, a location 450 meters below the summit of the Mont Ventoux.
In the first part will be overcome the First Category of Col de Lagarde d'Apt and the difficult Col de Notre Dame des Abeilles but the last 13.3 kilometers of ascent will be decisive for the victory.
Image

Stage 5 (Hill) - Forcalquier > Cannes
The fifth stage will be a new chance for the uphill finisher to achieve a partial success.
The start will be in Forcalquier, the race will be easy up to the Mediterranean coasts; the difficult part of the route will begin from Fréjus with 4 consecutive GPM to precede the arrive to Cannes seafront.
Image

Stage 6 (Hill) - Antibes > Nice
The sixth stage will be very hard with 7 mountains to climb; in fact after the departure from Antibes the group will start almost immediately to go up. Probably the Cote de Peille will cause a first clear creaming in the group of the best, followed by the dour Saut de Millo and the classic Col d'Eze.
Image

Stage 7 (Flat) - Limone Piemonte > Alessandria
The seventh day will happen the trepass in Italy with a new chance for the sprinter.
The race will unfold in Piedmont Padana Plain, for GC men it will be an easy transfer from Limone Piemonte to Alessandria.
Image

Stage 8 (Hill) - Valenza > Eremo Sant'Alberto di Butrio
The eighth fraction will probably be the most insidious of the race; it will be the stage of the Walls. 166 kilometers will be tackled from Valenza to the Eremo Sant'Alberto di Butrio, including the last 80 in which 12 Cotes will be climbed one after the other.
Image

Stage 9 (ITT) - Bobbio > Santo Stefano d'Aveto
The second race weekend will be opened by the individual time trial.
From Bobbio to Santo Stefano d'Aveto will be 41 kilometers very suitable for the cronoman with 2 easy ascents to complicate the race.
Image

Stage 10 (Mountain) - Sestri Levante > Val di Luce
The second Sunday of the race will be disputed the mountain stage that could decide the Paris Adriatic.
The very hard climb of Valico di San Pellegrino in Alpe will be the watershed of the day, after the High Category GPM there will be the arrival at the Val di Luce sky resort.
Image

Stage 11 (Hill) - Pistoia > Bologna - San Luca
The eleventh stage will be the shortest of the Paris Adriatic but it will be very difficult with 2 First Category climb and many kilometers higher than 10% slope.
The group will move from Tuscany to Emilia Romagna, from Pistoia to Bologna, with the arrival at the top of the Santuario Madonna di San Luca.
Image

Stage 12 (Flat) - Bologna > Pesaro
The penultimate stage will be the final opportunity for sprinters.
The route from bologna to Pesaro will be completely flat and in a long part along the Emilian coast of Adriatic Sea.
Image

Stage 13 (Hill) - Pesaro > Civitanova Marche
The Paris Adriatic will end in the Marche with a difficult stage that could overturn the general classification.
After crossing Ancona, there will be 100 kilometers of continuous ups and downs that will bring the riders to the arrival of Civitanova Marche.

My tour : maps/tours/view/8572

First édition of Paris-Adriatic and a tough race of 13 stages very different every day. Sprint, classicmen, climber : all should be happy.

Image

We start with a stage for sprinters despite a final rather hilly towards Avalon.

Image

This time, no room for doubt. The sprinters will be at the party in Mâcon. A few ribs in the process will be planned but nothing unsmountable and the specialists of the last straight will play the win.

Image

First meeting for the candidates to the final victory with this spectacular finish at Fort de la Bastille, above Grenoble. The last 2 kilometers to almost 10% will not be missed.

Image

New stage in the undecided scenario with sprinters, fighters or punchers who may have their chance. For the favorites, it will be the flat calm.

Image

This is the first big date for the candidates for the final victory. If gaps may already exist, the climb to Gréolières les Neiges should book surprises and create the first big selection. Even if the percentages will not be so complicated.

Image

It is the only time trial of the event and it should favor the riders of the general classification with the presence of Col d'Eze midway. With 26 kilometers, there will be enough to create real differences for the beats of the day before.

Image

The riders will already have a taste of the first monument of the season with a stage traced along the Mediterranean, from Menton to Savona including San Remo. Roads known for the most part but borrowed in the opposite direction.

Image

Funny step towards La Spezia with a scenario difficult to establish in advance. Sprinters, fighters, punchers climbers of madness for the general: everything is possible and feasible given the proposed route.

Image

This is already the last altitude arrival of the event. But as much as it will hold to not lose everything. Only 109km on the program, three climbs including the terrible Passo delle Radici and a mythical arrival at Abetone. The leader at the evening of this stage will be able to dream to the title.

Image

After Milan-SanRemo, a wink to the other superb Italian classic of the beginning of the season, the Strade Bianche with a stage traced towards Siena (20km identical to finish) and a lot of "white roads" borrowed during the second half of the stage. Constancy for the race from this stage ...

Image

Bis repetita for runners with new white routes to the program of the stage. If the Alpe di Poti, crossed on the Giro 2016, should not play a major role - except falls - the two long sectors towards the end of the race will be essential to them.

Image

There are three more white road sections on this stage and a last major section of 13km (!) Between the Passo di Peloso summit and the arrival located on the heights of San Severino Marche. A kind of Strade Bianche, again.

Image

Last step much quieter for the runners with an air of Milan-SanRemo. But the final will be simpler towards San Benedetto del Tronto, with 30km all dishes to let the remaining sprinters afford an opportunity to win.

Paris- Adriatic
(In progress)
2041 km
  • 1 summit finish
  • 1 hilltop finish (Urbino)
  • flat stages
  • 38 km ITT
Image
The classic not-so-easy flat stage from Pa-Ni, with a 500m-10% hill as the first KOM
Image
An hilly finale with two easy cotes and the roller-coaster finale in the center of Auxerre
Image
An easy sprinters' stage in which the only problem is the wind
Image
A rather WTF stage for breakaways, with rather narrow roads and Negron mid-stage
Image
The big Tappone in France: after the irregular Col de la Sinne with a central part above 10% and a very technical descent, the riders will face the long and regular Col Saint Martin before the 2nd Cat. arrive to the Lac Boreon
Image
Image
A stage for long-range attacks ends the French journey: Braus+Madone de Gorbio can severely select the peloton before the Col d'Eze, from a steadier side than usual.
Image
The Italian part of the race begins with the longest stage of the race, devoted to sprinters.
Image
A Liège in the Oltrepo Pavese. Passo Crocetta, Montalto Pavese and Boffalora are the hardest hills and could break havoc in the peloton early.
Image
The only ITT in the race is divided in two sections: a lumpy start -with a rather terrible muro in it- and a more standard second part with flats and straights.
Image
A long stage for the Ardennes men: after the two-part ascent to Monte delle Cesane the finale is in the town centre of Urbino, with the absurd 20% cobbled Via Saffi as a last judge.
Image
Image
The last mountain stage begins with the combo San Romualdo + San Vicino planned for Tirreno 2015. After a hilly central part the last mammoth of the Tirreno is the Sassotetto in its complete version (Pizzo di Meta) from the northern side with the central 5 km at 11% average (!).
The climb ends at -22: to the finish line in Sarnano still miss the descent and a short, steep gravel road climb -visible in Streetview-

Image
Image
A rolling day, for breakaway or for the last, desperate attacks. The only really steep climb is very short, at -22 to the finish in the centre of Teramo.
Image
Sprinters' finale in the classic Tirreno circuit, used years ago as inline stage.

Paris-Adriatico

Also known as « Course au soleil » or The Race to the Sun, as it runs in the first half of March, typically starting in cold and wintry conditions in the French capital before reaching the spring sunshine on the Adriatico Sea. Recently, Paris-Nice editions have softened and GC guys only have several stages and a time-trial so there are 4 flat stages and few opportunities for climbers. You will not find here that kind of race.

Running from Sunday March 5th to 12th 2017, the 1st Paris-Adriatico will be made up of 13 stages and will cover a total distance of 2027 Km kilometres.
- 2 flat stages
- 6 hilly stage ( summit finishes: Château-Chinon, Super-Besse, Muro di Guardiagrele)
- 3 Mountain stages ( summit finishes: Monastère de Chalais, Prato Nevoso, Prati di Tivo)
- 2 individual time trial (33 km)

THE ROUTE
Image

The route has been designed with realistic starts and finishes so there is room enough for podiums, press and team buses

Grand départ
Versailles
Image

Versailles > Versailles ITT
Image
The very first edition of Paris-Adriatico starts with a classic prologue in Versailles. Starting in Château de Versailles, this prologue will create the first GC. The route includes long straights so powerful cyclists like T. Martin or T. Dumoulin are clear favourites

Nemours > Château-Chinon

Image
The first half of the stage is mostly flat but the last 50 km are hilly with an uphill finish which is not very steep so it's ideal for cyclists like Alaphilippe or Benoot

Château-Chinon Finish
Image

Châtillon-en-Bazois > Vichy
Image
Flat stage with a nervous finish including two hills ideal for srpinters who want to test themselves for Milano-San Remo. Also, it could be the day for rouleurs in breakaways.

Vichy:
Image

Vichy > Super-Besse Sancy

Image
Image

This is the first serious test for the GC men although it's a medium mountain stage. There will probably be two races, one of them among the GC contenders and the other one it's for the victory. Previous winners here were Valverde in Tour de France 2008 and Costa in 2011 so it's perfect for puncheurs

Super-Besse finish:
Image

Le Puy-en-Velay > Monastère de Chalais
Image
Profile:
Image
This is one of the hardest stages in this Paris-Adriatico as it ends in a HC climb. Monastère de Chalais, 7 kilometres at 10% from Voreppe along a winding forest road. The atmosphere of the remote location is peaceful and conducive to meditation

Finish:
Image

Pont-de-Claix > Digne-les-Bains

Today sprinters can be happy as a massive sprint is expected although they will have to suffer the first half of the stage. The Paris -Adriatico heads south looking for the sun and abandones the Hautes Alpes

Saint-Tropez > Nice
Nice:

Sanremo > Prato Nevoso

Image
Paris-Adriatico enters in Italy with a high mountain stage ending in Prato Nevoso where climbers must show their skills to create gaps over all rounders and TT specialists before next TT

Prato Nevoso:

Mondovì > Genova

Image
This is the ideal stage for a breakaway win. It could be the day for puncheurs with good sprint skills like Van Avermaet, Gilbert or Valverde if there is a reduced sprint in Genova

Monterosso al Mare > Levanto ITT

Cinque Terre:

Image
One of the most important stages of this tour is today's time trial in Cinque Terre. 25 km long with a hilly profile will limit the posible gaps among cyclists so the race is open.

Firenze > Perugia

Hilly stage across Tuscany ideal for puncheurs training for Ardennes classics.

Monteripido:

Foligno > Prati di Tivo
Image
Image
Last high mountain stage of this tour but it's not the last time to open up gaps in the GC as tomorrow there's another summit finish. Today is the perfect stage for climbers to reduce the time lost in the TT. Cyclists will have to tackle with hard slopes and snowy low temperatures
Prati di Tivo:

Teramo > Muro di Guardiagrele

Image
Paris-Adriatico ends with this spectacular mountain stage with 3 major climbs. The last one is Muro di Guardiagrele, with slopes above 30% this is one of the most iconic and hardest hill of Italia. The GC will have a last chance to turn over the classification as the last climb is hard enough to create 30" gaps.

Do you think Muro di Guardiagrele is not a proper place to end this Paris-Adriatico? Then watch it by yourself

Post by antoninvds »

Hi, there is my route for the Winter Stage Races contest : maps/tours/view/8641 :ahahah:

It begins in Alfortville, in the Paris south-eastern suburbs, and goes to San Benedetto del Tronto, on the Adriatic Coast. I chose these two cities as they are twinned and have a particular relationship.
There are :
- 4 flat stages, including one uphill finish and whites roads.
- 5 hilly stages.
- 2 mountain stages, with Mont Serein and Terminillo.
- 2 individual time trials, for 28 kilometers.
- 1988 kilometers

1. Alfortville -> Mantes-la-Jolie - 158.5km - flat. :happy:
A first chance for the sprinters, during a flat stage going to West and Mantes. The final consists in 3 laps of a 27km-circuit with a 3rd category climb.

2. Clairefontaine-en-Yvelines -> Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire - 185.5km - flat. siinc
This is a second chance for sprinters to take the win, and there will be no climb on this stage. This is very flat and there is no real difficulty.

3. Varzy -> Autun - 176.5km - hilly. :asd:
It will be complicate to find some flat parts on this stage which goes through the Morvan and its forests. It is very hilly and guys like Alaphilippe or Wellens should find a nice route to attack. Riders will climb up to 800m twice with Haut Folin and Mont Beuvray.

4. Roanne -> Annonay - 169km - hilly. :asd:
That stage is less hilly than the precedent but the arrive is placed a few kilometers after the end of the last climb, and there is no downhill. Riders should pay attention to the wind in the Vallée du Rhône for 20 kilometers.

5. Saint-Vallier -> Station du Mont Serein / Mont Ventoux - 178km - mountain. :stupore:
After a long descent of the Vallée du Rhône, where like the day before, riders should pay attention to the wind, with two minor climbs : the route goes up to the Station du Mont Serein, a 15km-climb, with high slopes (about 4 kilometers at 10.5%). Paris-Nice came here in 2008 and Cadel Evans won, so it is sure to have a beautiful fight there. A pure climber should win.

6. Valensole -> Nice - 220.5km - hilly. :scare:
This is a very long stage with many climb and a big D+. Once again, it is difficult to find some flat parts and it'll end after having descended the Col d'Èze, a traditional of Paris-Nice, on the Promenade des Anglais.

7. Nice -> Col d'Èze - 11.8km - Ascending ITT. :asd:
Several times, Paris Nice has ended with a ITT going to Èze, and that exercice is quite difficult. Riders will climb by the side they descended yesterday.

8. Vintimille -> Gênes - 162.5km - flat. :65:
The route is very flat and take the same places than Milano - San Remo, but in inverted sense, taking the Poggio and the Capo Berta. More than a flat stage, the wind should once again take some importance in the race.

9. Gênes -> La Spezia - 141.5km - hilly. :asd:
It is a short stage in which guys like Benoot and Bardet should shine, with short climbs and an arrive just after the last downhill. The route goes through the North Apennines Mountains until La Spezia, where the riders will find a single flat kilometers to sprint to take the win.

10. Marina di Pisa -> La Madonna a Brolio - 197.5km - flat with white roads.
The route is quite flat with an uphill arrive in vineyards in the North of Siena. Before that, there are some kilometers with white roads (about 13km), and a tiring route, not large a not perfectly flat. A strong man should win just under Castello di Brolio.

11. Città di Castello -> Mont Terminillo / Pian de Valli - 212.5km - mountain. :stupore:
The second mountain stage is more difficult than the first, and also longer. From Città di Castello, the riders will go South to take the first climbs of the day after a hundred kilometers. La Forca di Cerro and la Forca Capistrello should make the first selection, it will be impossible to come back in the front afterwards as the route goes up and down everlastingly. The final climb to Terminillo will be the final fight between climbers, and a guy like Quintana should win, as he did on Tirreno 2017.

12. Montereale -> San Benedetto del Tronto - 157km - hilly. :?
This is the last chance to attack in this short stage. After a long downhill from Fonte del Campo to Porto Ascoli, about 75 kilometers, the riders will enter a 17km-circuit which they'll ride three times before the arrive, on the coast.

13. San Benedetto del Tronto -> San Benedetto del Tronto - 16.5km - ITT. :triste:
It was a long time we didn't see any flat. Final kilometers are the final fight between the strongest men of the GC.

Hope you'll enjoy it ! :D

A small preview...
Image

Here the details:

PROLOGUE: Orsay ITT, 7.5 km
Image
The Grand Depart is host by Orsay, in the sputh-western suburbs of Paris. It's a short and explosive route, with a small climb followed by 3 flat kms and a not too technical discent to the finish line.

STAGE 1: Souppes-sur-Loing > Chateau-Chinon, 194.8 km
Image
A flat stage which isn't that flat. Three cotes in the final. the last one finishing only 2 kms before the finish, could make it suitable for finisseurs or sprinters able to digest climbs.

KOM: Cote de Pousseaux (4° Categoria, 199 m, 1.4 Km al 3.2%, Km 113.4), Cote de L'Huis Seuillot (4° Categoria, 407 m, 3.1 Km al 3.4%, Km 164.1), Cote de Veaumery (4° Categoria, 503 m, 4.5 Km al 3.0%, Km 176.1), La Croix de Pré (4° Categoria, 536 m, 4.5 Km al 3.6%, Km 192.2).

STAGE 2: Gueugnon > Mont Pilat, 203.1 km
Image
On Sunday the first mountain stage is placed. However, the final climbs are not too difficult and the stage is easier than many medium mountain stages, so don't expect to see many gaps between the GC riders.

KOM: Croix de Chabouret (1° Categoria, 1199 m, 14.6 Km al 5.6%, Km 183.6), Mont Pilat (1° Categoria, 1301 m, 9.2 Km al 5.4%, Arrivo).

STAGE 3: Annonay > Sourges, 175.9 km
Image
At last, a stage suitable for pure sprinters. A few 4th category along the route, but a bunch print is more than likealy to happen.

KOM: Saint-jeure-d'Ay (4° Categoria, 474 m, 2.3 Km al 5.3%, Km 15.0), Cote de Piolenc (4° Categoria, 85 m, 0.7 Km al 5.1%, Km 149.4), Montèe de Orange (4° Categoria, 92 m, 1.0 Km al 5.0%, Km 157.0).

STAGE 4: Pertuis > Cannes, 206.5 km
Image
GC riders could wait for Nice stage, but this day is perfectly suitable for ardennais riders: a Liegi-Bastogne-Liegi-ish stage with 7 cotes in the second half of the route. The Mur of Cabris is with no doubt the most interesting, a sort of french Muro di Sormano.

KOM: Col de Saint Andrieu (4° Categoria, 507 m, 1.2 Km al 5.2%, Km 102.3), Mur de Fayence (3° Categoria, 350 m, 1.1 Km al 9.9%, Km 134.8), Cote de Callian (4° Categoria, 397 m, 4.0 Km al 4.5%, Km 143.9), Saint-Cézaire-sur-Sagne (3° Categoria, 464 m, 4.5 Km al 5.0%, Km 155.0), Mur de Cabris (2° Categoria, 538 m, 1.7 Km al 13.4%, Km 166.2), Cote de Grasse (4° Categoria, 423 m, 2.5 Km al 5.0%, Km 174.8), Cote de Chemin du Miracle (4° Categoria, 130 m, 2.9 Km al 4.1%, Km 193.4), La Croix des Gardes (4° Categoria, 144 m, 2.6 Km al 4.7%, Km 201.6).

STAGE 5: Nice > Nice, 151.1 km
Image
As a pivotal point of Paris-Nice, the classic Nice stage is proposed in this Paris-Adriatico again; however, the route is much more hard, with two 1st category and the final climb of Col d'Eze.

KOM: Col de Coaraze (2° Categoria, 614 m, 9.2 Km al 4.6%, Km 31.5), Col de la Porte (1° Categoria, 1391 m, 11.0 Km al 7.4%, Km 48.6), Col de l'Abbé (3° Categoria, 1183 m, 3.9 Km al 4.7%, Km 58.6), Col de Castillon (2° Categoria, 708 m, 6.8 Km al 5.2%, Km 82.2), Col de la Madone de Gorbio (1° Categoria, 919 m, 13.8 Km al 6.5%, Km 111.2), Col d'Eze (2° Categoria, 494 m, 7.5 Km al 5.8%, Km 138.3).

STAGE 6: Vallecrosia > Recco, 178.8 km
Image
A sprinter stage only on paper: the tricky Ligurian coast is the main character of the stage, with a non-stop series of ups and downs during the last 20 kms.

KOM: Capo Berta (4° Categoria, 124 m, 2.6 Km al 4.6%, Km 42.0), Colletta di Arenzano (4° Categoria, 82 m, 1.0 Km al 6.9%, Km 132.5).

STAGE 7: La Spezia > Marina di Carrara ITT, 27.3 km
Image
A time trial with two quite hard climbs and tricky roads in the first part and straight roads suitable to TT specialists in the second one, from Romito Magra on.

STAGE 8: Tirrenia > Serravalle Pistoiese, 176.6 km
Image
A typical Tirreno-Adriatico style uphill finish will be featured in this stage; Montecatini Alto climb could be crucial.

KOM: Valle Benedetta (3° Categoria, 328 m, 6.4 Km al 4.6%, Km 22.9), Viano (2° Categoria, 427 m, 4.8 Km al 5.8%, Km 110.3), Petrognano (2° Categoria, 319 m, 4.3 Km al 6.5%, Km 142.2), Uzzano (4° Categoria, 146 m, 1.3 Km al 4.7%, Km 153.9), Buggiano Castello (4° Categoria, 128 m, 0.9 Km al 10.0%, Km 158.6), Montecatini Alto (3° Categoria, 202 m, 2.0 Km al 8.3%, Km 169.2), Serravalle Pistoiese (4° Categoria, 170 m, 2.0 Km al 5.9%, Arrivo).

STAGE 9: Agliana > Passignano sul Trasimeno, 224.7 km
Image
The longest stage of this Paris - Adriatico is also one of the hardest: almost 3700 vertical meters, most of them placed in the second half of the stage.

KOM: Santo Stefano di Tizzano (4° Categoria, 284 m, 3.7 Km al 4.9%, Km 45.2), Poggio alla Croce (3° Categoria, 491 m, 4.3 Km al 6.1%, Km 52.2), Monte Lignano (2° Categoria, 704 m, 4.4 Km al 9.0%, Km 124.4), Scopetone (3° Categoria, 525 m, 3.4 Km al 6.8%, Km 139.9), Valico della Rassinata (2° Categoria, 854 m, 5.6 Km al 7.1%, Km 152.2), Portole (2° Categoria, 885 m, 10.6 Km al 5.0%, Km 174.2), Val di Pierle (2° Categoria, 639 m, 4.4 Km al 7.4%, Km 198.3), Val di Rosa (3° Categoria, 502 m, 3.3 Km al 5.5%, Km 208.6), Trecine (3° Categoria, 500 m, 4.1 Km al 4.5%, Km 216.8).

STAGE 10: Santa Maria degli Angeli > San Giacomo, 179.7 km
Image
The queen stage of the race has a perfect route for the riders who want to go all-in: a very hard mid-section, with the climbs of Frontignano, Forca di Gualdo and Forca di Presta, is followed by a long discent/false flat, straight to the intermediate sprint of Ascoli Piceno and the start of the final climb.

KOM: Val di Chienti (3° Categoria, 786 m, 4.8 Km al 4.4%, Km 40.7), Frontignano (2° Categoria, 1204 m, 7.4 Km al 6.6%, Km 90.8), Forca di Gualdo (1° Categoria, 1489 m, 10.1 Km al 7.5%, Km 107.5), Forca di Presta (3° Categoria, 1531 m, 4.5 Km al 4.9%, Km 119.8), San Giacomo (1° Categoria, 1076 m, 13.3 Km al 6.9%, Arrivo).

STAGE 11: Comunanza > San Benedetto del Tronto, 161 km
Image
A hilly first part is followed by a totally flat 80 kms, so that sprinters should be the main characters of the day.

KOM: San Vittoria in Matenano (3° Categoria, 586 m, 7.0 Km al 3.7%, Km 16.3), Falerone (4° Categoria, 382 m, 4.9 Km al 3.4%, Km 35.5), Colmurano (4° Categoria, 406 m, 2.8 Km al 5.1%, Km 55.5).

STAGE 12: San Benedetto del Tronto > Pescara, 191.7 km
Image
The last stage is the now or never stage: the route allows big gaps and attacks far from the finish line placed in Pescara, capital city of Abruzzo and one of the most important Adriatic cities.

KOM: Canzano (3° Categoria, 457 m, 7.8 Km al 4.2%, Km 50.2), Colle di Castellaro (2° Categoria, 652 m, 11.2 Km al 4.8%, Km 73.4), Muraglia (2° Categoria, 489 m, 3.6 Km al 7.9%, Km 92.6), Villa Degna (3° Categoria, 403 m, 5.2 Km al 4.8%, Km 110.5), Portacaldaia (3° Categoria, 424 m, 3.6 Km al 6.3%, Km 117.8), Villa Finocchio (4° Categoria, 230 m, 2.7 Km al 4.5%, Km 138.7), Chieti (2° Categoria, 324 m, 4.7 Km al 5.7%, Km 159.1), Chieti/Via del Tricalle (3° Categoria, 297 m, 2.3 Km al 8.2%, Km 165.1), San Salvatore (3° Categoria, 282 m, 1.5 Km al 9.1%, Km 169.8), Quaglietta (3° Categoria, 185 m, 2.3 Km al 7.3%, Km 180.7), San Silvestro (4° Categoria, 148 m, 1.5 Km al 8.0%, Km 187.2).

Re: Winter Stage Races (Cat. 2, deadline on 14/3)

Winter Race (Paris-Ancona) - by pr8
maps/tours/view/8493
A thrilling race with a different finish every day, with different riders able to potentially win it. The lenght of the stage is not exaggerated, to compensate the lack of rest days. I tried also to keep the length of transfers as short as possible.
Image
Image

Stage 1: Montigny-le-Bretonneux > Montigny-le-Bretonneux (156 km)
Explosive and spectacular start. Short stage characterized by a circuit that have to be faced 5 times. The circuit includes a short climb and a sector of dirt road near the park of Versailles. The hosting city is famous for hosting the main covered velodrome in France. Also GC riders have to pay attention in case of rain or wind.
Favourites: Demare, Kristoff, Sagan
Image

Stage 2: Viry-Châtillon > Avallon (219 km)
The longest stage of the race, going south along the Seine. It is almost completely flat, despite the last 20 km, that are characterized by 3 short but demanding climbs. The last one will carry the riders towards the finish line of Avallon. This kind of stage could be favourable to a narrow sprint, or to a finisseur's attack. GC riders could lose important seconds.
Favourites: Van Avermaet, Gilbert, Colbrelli
Image

Stage 3: Arnay-le-Duc > Mâcon (178 km)
Interesting finish with 5 climbs, not particularly demanding but well positioned. The second part of the stage is hosted by the Chardonnay's area, with wonderful landscapes. The classification here could see the first selection.
Favourites: Alaphilippe, Kwiatkowski, Wellens
Image

Stage 4: Mâcon > Tournon-sur-Rhône (194 km)
Long but easy stage that represents a very good occasion for pure sprinters. The stage goes down towards south along Rhone Valley and Isère Region.
Favourites: Kittel, Cavendish, Viviani
Image

Stage 5: Montélimar > Mont Ventoux (Pas de la Frache) (166 km)
The first mountain stage is hosted by the southern Alps. It has two clear key points, the demanding climb to Col de Lagarde d'Apt (11.1km - 6.8%) and the long climb to Mont Ventoux (Pas de la Freche, 17.1km - 5.0%). The second one has basically constant slopes, but in the final km presents a ramp with 20%.
Favourites: Valverde, D.Martin, Pinot
Image

Stage 6: Digne-les-Bains > Nice (187 km)
The first half of the stage is almost without difficoulties, but the final presents 4 climbs in sequence. The combination of Col d'Eze from a new side (6.3km - 6.9%) and Col des Quatre Chemins (3.3km - 8.7%) is new and interesting.
Favourites: Bardet, Uran, Nibali
Image

Stage 7: Menthon > Genova (Pontedecimo) (181 km)
Flat stage arriving in Italy, along the "Riviera Ligure". Riders will face a part of the route of "Milano-Sanremo" in the opposite direction. The final kilometers to Pontedecimo are in light ascent.
Favourites: Gaviria, Groenewegen, Sagan
Image

Stage 8: Genova (Nervi) > Cerreto Laghi (175 km)
The second mountain stage is probably the hardest of the race, despite the final climb (Cerreto Laghi: 10.9km - 5.2%) is not so demanding. However Passo del Lagestrello (14.7km - 6.0%) and Passo di Pratizzano (8.4km - 6.4%) make this stage really important in terms of classification.
Favourites: Quintana, Froome, Nibali
Image

Stage 9: Barga > Cortona (216 km)
This very long stage will carry the peloton across Tuscany, in a wonderful landscape. The central part of the stage is characterized by several climbs with different slopes, but the crucial climb is surely the one that will be faced before arriving in Cortona (2.8km - 6.5%).
Favourites: Valverde, D.Martin, Alaphilippe
Image

Stage 10: Città di Castello > Poggio San Romualdo (163 km)
The last mountain stage is characterized by two interesting climbs: Monte San Vicino (14.8km - 6.3%) and Poggio San Romualdo (9.3km - 7.2%), plus more shorter ones. The final climb, with its constant slopes, could be useful for grimpeurs to gain more advantage before the time trial.
Favourites: Landa, Quintana, Aru
Image

Stage 11: Matelica > Martinsicuro (158 km)
Last opportunity for the sprinters. In the first part the route is a constant up and down, without particular difficulties. The second part will led riders to the probably final sprint in Martinsicuro.
Favourites: Kittel, Cavendish, Gaviria
Image

Stage 12: San Benedetto del Tronto > San Benedetto del Tronto (30 km)
The classical ITT of San Benedetto del Tronto, a fixed point of the last editions of "Tirreno-Adriatico", has been modified to make it longer and harder (thanks to Monteprandone climb). It is a key point for the general classification.
Favourites: Dumoulin, Froome, T.Martin
Image

Stage 13: San Benedetto del Tronto > Ancona (174 km)
Unusual final stage for this "Paris-Adriatico". Riders will face a very nervous stage with 8 short but step climbs. The terrain is perfect to overturn the final classification. The effort of the previous days could be paid today. The final ceremony will be hosted in Ancona.
Favourites: Gilbert, Van Avermaet, Kwiatkowski
