Olympic Contest: Road to 2024

Post by Pigna » 31/07/2016, 17:16

The Olympics will soon be here also for us! This isn't a contest of the UCI World Tour and every user can partecipate to become our olympic champion.

To decide the location of the Olympic Games 2024 the CIO will consider also the route of the road cycling race. So, to patecipate you will draw the route of these candidates town:
  • Budapest
  • Roma
  • Paris
  • Los Angeles
  • Amburgo (yes, I know who it retired, but 4 cities are few)
You must track only the Elite Men's road race, not the ITT. Any circuits will be tracked whenever that will be rides (not just once).
Don't include impraticable road and respects the UCI Regulations (see the Olympics games sections!). Remember that the jury, consisting of me and emmea90, can assign penalties in percentage of votes (for examples the 10% of the votes) in the case of infringements of regulations.

Include all the classic in a tour and write here the link. You can keep private stages, we will think to make them public after the deadline.

Stage descriptions aren't compulsory, but consider that voting is popular, therefore a good description can encourage the users to vote your routes .
Also you can present your proposal in English or in your native language in a showroom.

The winner will be decided by a jury. Its member are:
  • emmea90, admin
  • nasdon33, winner of the 1st WT contest
  • mike4296, winner of the 2nd WT contest
I, pigna, will be the guarantor of the good faith of the jury. The jury's members can't partecipate to this contest. Every jury's member will communicate the name of the autor of the best route for him and his motivations. Will win the route that will get at least 2 votes, in case of equality the jurors will communicate the name of the second for them and so on.

In particular the jury will consider this elements to decide the best proposal:
  • Spectacularity of the routes.
  • Respect for the traditions of the Olympic Games, for examples the distance of the routes from the host cities (see London and Rio).
  • Balance among the routes: not all of them have to be of the same hardness, there will be more easy routes, favorable for finisseurs (see London) and favorable routes, more suited for climbers (Rio).
  • Safety of the circuits: a very twisty urban circuit, to be repeated many times is very dangerous.
  • Capacity of the routes to show the beauty and the history of the region. The Olympics they do it often: see the Mall for London and the Great Wall for Beijing.
The deadline is 21 August at 23:59.

In my opinion the best proposal for this contest are the kevinsorbo's routes.
I like all the 5 stages, in particular the Budapest and the Rome routes are very well drawed. The only two things that i didn't really liked are the finish of Paris and LA because they are a bit too far than the cities.

Well that is quite suprising :) ...

Still a big thank goes to xflyinghigh ( |panda ) cause his Tour gave me the hint to keep track of the cobbled sections not to far away from Paris, which are a huge improval in that specific track.

Sorry for the late guys but I really couldn't check the routes before now.

Just a few words before my classification: I noticed Budapest route was probably the easiest one, everybody did a good job. Hamburg the worst one, because of the bad territory around the city. I'd have expected better Roma routes, trying to valorize Colli Albani, but only a few did. Paris was the most interesting route: outside the city it's plenty of short hills and there could be a great route. Last but not least, L.A. route: many of you went too far with the positive gap and the hardness of the climbs.

So here is my clasification:
1. El_pistolero
2. Kevinsorbo
3. Paganini (however his Paris olympic race is the best route of the contest imho - even though it's a bit too short)
4. Sagan99
5. Luca7
6. Dennis1107
