Hello here is my vote

Fifth Place - 1 point: Pesallu (v2) (maps/viewtrack/188405)
A very good first stage. Well tracked for punchers. It will be nervous and I like that.
I like the second stage profile. But I'm not satisfied by the long white roads you used between Ringaroom and Mathinna. A finish on a white road, isn't that I prefer too.
It the same for the third stage, too much white roads.
I love the Mount Wellington. But I thing that the finish of a road race could be more judicious as a time trial.
Good fifth stage.
A satisfactory last stage.
A very good tour overall. You should have just pointed out the white roads if they were placed voluntarily.

Fourth Place - 2 points: Pr8 (maps/tours/view/8213)
Good first stage. Nothing to say
Excellent second stage. Just a detail. I would not have doubled the climb of Red Hill.
Considering I have the same stage to Woodend, I only can valid this stage.
Good time trial.
The same for your fifth stage. It's a shame that there are white roads after Yarra glen.
Good finish

Third Place - 3 points: Dennis1107 (maps/tours/view/8132)
Good first stage. It's a shame that there are white roads on Stewarts River.
Nothing to say on the time trial.
Good stage to Sydney.
Excellent fourth stage
Very good stage to Cambewarra Lookout.
Well finsih on Black Mountain.

Second Place - 4 points: tomrenm (maps/tours/view/8358)
Excellent first stage.
The same for the second.
I like the third.
Perfect for the fourth.
Nothing to say on the time trial.
It's not the best finish in Canberra but it's satisfactory.
It's a shame, you lose my first place because your climbs aren't named.

First Place - 6 points: Mauro (maps/tours/view/8117)
Good introduction in Sydney.
Excellent stage to Mount Keira
The same to Braidwood.
Nothing to say on the time trial.
Good stage to Perisher.
Satisfactory final, but it's the same comment as tomrenm's finish
Congratulations, for me, you win the Contest clap

Second place - 4 points : Paganini (maps/tours/view/8131)
The climb of Baw Baw and the stage of Traralgon are very cool.

Re: Tour Down Harder - Voting

Post by mels2309 »

I’ve based my vote on the space beyond finishing lines, distance between the finish place and the start place the next day and of course who has the most challenging and exciting route.

Fifth Place - 1 point: Mauro (maps/tours/view/8117)
A good build-up towards the mountain stage. A lot of stages where you don’t really know what to expect and that’s good. The Sydney stage, the Canberra stage and the Braidwood stage are stages that are really hard to predict - those hills will make it unpredictable and exciting. The stage to the Perisher Ski Resort isn’t the hardest mountain stage, but with the time trial already done, the climbers who are down in the table has to attack.

Fourth Place - 2 points: Belgian4444 (maps/tours/view/8086)
Thankfully, you managed it to find 6 good places to finish a stage. And because that wasn’t the case in almost all the other routes, it was a little bit of a relief to see your Tour. It’s a good race for sprinters who also can survive some climbs, like Sagan, Matthews, Colbrelli - three, maybe four chances for them. A time trial that really suits Rohan Dennis. The Australians won’t complain about this route.

Third Place - 3 points: Rmax85 (maps/tours/view/8095)
A nice route, Quintana will really like stage 2 towards the Mount Donna Buang. The only thing I want to complain about is the final 30km time trial. It’s maybe too long. Quintana lost almost 1.30 to Dumoulin in the 29km time trial in the last stage of the Giro last year. But, it’s a Tour with possibilities for sprinters to take the leaders jersey, chances for the medium mountain specialists to get the jersey in stages 2 and 4. The climbers of course have their chance in stage 5 and the time trial specialists have the opportunity in stage 6. A good race for every kind of rider.

Second Place - 4 points: Mike4296-v2 (maps/tours/view/8073)
I really like your stages, it goes up and down in the last kilometres in the first stage towards Greensborough. That makes a lot of riders contenders (sprinters, punchers) to win the first stage and take the leaders jersey, difficult to control and a little bit like the Amstel Gold Race. And stage 5 towards Heathmont looks like Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Up and down on the steep little hills and a tough final two kilometres. The time trial at the end will be decisive I think. And 19km is a perfect length to make it exciting final stage.

First Place - 6 points: Pr8 (maps/tours/view/8213)
Absolutely no doubt Pr8 is on the first place. It’s a nice build-up. A flat stage first, two medium mountain stages, the time trial and then the high mountain stage. The space at the finishing line was very important in my vote. You just can’t finish everywhere and he found the right places to finish a stage with space/parking areas around the finishing line. He has two different types of medium mountain stages with one uphill finish and one downhill finish. The time trial before the mountain stage is the perfect scenario for an exciting mountain stage. The riders who lost time has to make it right in the mountains, so they have to attack. For me, this is the most exciting Tour Down Harder. Well done Pr8!

FIFTH PLACE: pesallu-v1
Original route with the start in the Phillip Island Circuit and the Donna Buang downhill finish. Also liked he included already known climbs, such as the Falls Creek and the Lake Mountain, that has been used in the Hearld Sun Tour. By the way, very had route and 3 stages of more than 200 km. To much for January. Didn't lake too the massive (and quite random) transfer to Canberra.

FOURTH PLACE: danielcp327
I liked specially the inclusion of Mount Buninyong in the first stage and the fifth stage, with the Mount Tassie in the middle of the stage that can propiciate some far attacks. The rest of the stages are kinda repeat the same finishes and climbs than something like half of the contestants used. That's not bad, but can't compete with other routes that were more original.

THIRD PLACE: Pr8
Very correct route, without abusing of the mountain (at least from long climbs, as many pepole did) and including instead shorter hills, that can induce the same effects with much less hardness (remember we are still in January). He also included the Arthur's Seats climb, used in the HST, thing I appreciate.

SECOND PLACE: Paganini
Really appreciate the fact that you are continually searching for far attacks, instead of including the typical mountain/hill finish. Great general placement of the stages and quite original routes. The only thing I don't like is that fifth stage, with 245 km and two entire dust climbs . Liked very much the presentation you did too.

FIRST PLACE: Mike4296-v2 (I don't really matter, since both versions are almost the same, but for a Tour Down Under, much better a bit shorter stages)
I really liked the variety of stages, after seeing 881274681268 tours with 3 or 4 mastodontic mountain stages with even more uphill finishes 59@@ . Fifth stage is hardly improvable, with hardness through all the route, but not a hard finale. Almost sure there would be far attacks. The only thing that doesn't convince me is the ITT in the last day, It usually blocks the race because riders want to save some energy. At least is not as long as others i've seen, and its effect could be less.

Fifth Place - 1 point: (mels2309 - maps/tours/view/8174)
The ascent of Dead Horse is truly interminable; but this Down Under is very difficult even in the other stages.

Fourth Place - 2 points: (Rmax85 - maps/tours/view/8095)
This route is very tough, the fourth stage is from Grandi Giri.

Third Place - 3 points: (pesallu-v1 - maps/tours/view/8186)
The hardest I've ever seen, done very well, as I like it. Congratulations for the work done. Good boy.

Second Place - 4 points: (Crisborto1 - maps/tours/view/8088)
A path done really well, the climbs are there and they are long and steep.

First Place - 6 points: (Simone.Galbiati - maps/tours/view/8074)
I like this Tour Down Under because it was created only in the mountains of Adelaide; it takes originality and imagination to create a spectacular path and soon. The maximum vote deserves it all.

FIFTH PLACE - 1 point: Lorenzo.tripodi: maps/tours/view/8079

Definitely a climbers tour. Not a higher place due to the long travel after the first stage.

FOURTH PLACE - 2 points: Ded-Moroz: maps/tours/view/8125

Realistic route, not the hardest, but for a route focused on Adelaide it's better than the TDU now.

THIRD PLACE - 3 points: Rmax85: maps/tours/view/8095

Maybe the ITT can be a bit too long if you compare the possible time gain for climbers, but in terms of a season opening stage race: almost perfect.

SECOND PLACE - 4 points: Mike4296-v1: maps/tours/view/8080

Great variety in the race.

FIRST PLACE - 6 points: Pr8: maps/tours/view/8213

Also a great variety, but the mixed endings in the difficult routes and a finish in Albert Park take the win.

Fifth Place - 1 point: Paganini maps/tours/view/8131
This is a good route, but stage 5 is very hard.

Fourth Place - 2 points: Marco.berri maps/tours/view/8370
Well-balanced route, but main plot ends early.

Third Place - 3 points: Dennis1107 maps/tours/view/8132
Nice route, good balance between mountains and time trial, but last stage may be shorter.

Second Place - 4 points: Pr8 maps/tours/view/8213
Every stage of this route(arapt from last stage) can change GC. Unfortunately, stage 2 and 3 may be a bit shorter.

First Place - 6 points: Taaramae_crack maps/tours/view8191
Perfect! Good balance between sprinters and punchers, mountains and time trial. Normal distance of stages. No long transfers.

5. pesallu-v2 - 1 point: (maps/tours/view/8222)
Interesting start at Tasmania with three various stages, before the TT. A bit long transfer from south of Tasmania to the main part of Australia, maybe it should be a rest day between. I would more like to see a flat TT, to favour riders like Dumoulin more.

Stages: ++++ (of 5)
Balance: +++ (of 5)
Organisation: ++ (of 5)
Score: 9 (of 15)

4. mauro - 2 points: (maps/tours/view/8117)
I like including the Olympic course from 2000 as the first stage. Mount Keira would also be a real test, without making too big gaps inthe early phase. The last mountain stage is interesting with gravel at the end. A bit long transfer to the last stage, but it should work since the last stage is that short and easy. Spectacular final laps in Canberra

Stages: +++
Balance: ++++
Organisation: +++
Score: 10

3. marco.berri - 3 points: (maps/tours/view/8370)
A well designed route, which features two mountain top finishes, where one of them includes gravel. The sprint stages is interesting as well with posibilities for wind at the first one, and F1 circuit at the last one. Another circuit is visited at the TT. Stage 5 is interesting with an uphill sprint finish, but could maybe been harder in the last 50 km, to give the GC riders a last chance. The stage in Melbourne seems a bit unpractibal with all the streets in the city center before entering the circuit.

Stages: ++++
Balance: +++
Organisation: ++++
Score: 11

2. Pr8 - 4 points: (maps/tours/view/8213)
This course features the most you could ask for, with a mountain finish, as well as two stages with some shorter mounatins. The TT is good, and makes a good balance. Formula 1 courses makes an ineteresting finish for the tour. No long transfers between the stages.

Stages: +++
Balance: ++++
Organisation: ++++
Score: 11

1. mike4296-v1 - 6 points: (maps/tours/view/8080)
This course features the most you can excpact by a six-day race in south Australia. Two top finishes, and two stages for puncheurs, would make changes at the GC every single stage. The last TT is also flat and the right distance. No long transfers between the stages, and the Tour is never far away from Melbourne, where the most of the people lives in this area. I am not sure all of the start cities is big enough to host all the riders and media crew with hotels for the night, so you should maybe choose some larger start cities for your future races. Anyway, you are recieving my first place, because I think you are making the most interesting race.

Stages: ++++
Balance: ++++
Organisation: +++

Yep I know, but I'd rather see in particular the planimetry of the single stages, which is possible only if the route is public.
Btw, dodani's stages are private too

Fifth Place - 1 point: Dennis1107(maps/tours/view/8132)
The last stage in my opinion is long for a early season stage race. The rest of the stages have good distance.
Good route in the sea coast and I like the profiles and the organization.

Fourth Place - 2 points: Ded-Moroz(maps/tours/view/8125)
A traditional TDU race in Adelaide (I like it!). The distances are balanced except the 5th stage that is in my opinion too short (If the original TDU last stage is boring with 90km, reducing it to 67km will be even more boring) however I like the route and the profiles.

Third Place - 3 points: mels2309(maps/tours/view/8174)
Despite not having a presentation seems to be a nice work. I like the profiles and the route organization (starts in one side of the map and ends the other side, and there is no points of the map the race goes twice).
The total distance of the race is good and balanced.

Second Place - 4 points: Mike4296-v2(maps/tours/view/8073)
The light version is better than your normal version because the distances are better (not too short, noo too long) and similar to the original TDU. I like the climbs and the transfers between the stages are not too long.

First Place - 6 points: Pr8(maps/tours/view/8213)
First position for this route because in my opinion is the best route of the contest. This is really a Tour Down Under race, just changed the location and increased the hardness. I like the stages in a reduced area like the original TDU, there is no need to huge transfers and scattered stages. The climbs are suitable and the profile is nice.

To ease the valutation I excluded from my revision the routes with huge transfers, too many over 200 km stages, too much long (240 km) or short (70 km) stages, impracticable roads and too much TT (not more than 25 km).
The routes which respects these requirements are the ones of Belgian4444, mels2309, Rmax85, Dennis1107, Taaramae_crack, Pr8, Tomrenm and Xander66.

So here the 5 best routes according to my judge:

Fifth Place - 1 point: Taaramae_crack (maps/tours/view/8191)
Ok the TT, the next two stages are very similar. Don't know if the hilly classification of the 3rd is right, but whatever.
Nice finish in Mount Kosciuszko, same for Telstra Tower. I don't think the last stage is worth to be considered hilly.
Anyway, I really like the first stages and there are no particular mistakes, so you got the 5th place.

Fourth Place - 2 points: Belgian4444 (maps/tours/view/8086)
I like the fact that you started with two interesting medium mountain stages (even if Alexandra is really easy), placing the TT the last day.
Ok Mount Buller, a huge climb but as the only obstacle of the day. Because of the following flat stage, riders can go full gas.
I don't like Healesville so much, with that long discent after a not too hard stage.
Ok the final TT.

Third Place - 3 points: tomrenm (maps/tours/view/8358)
An interesting route in general, with short "downunderish" stages.
I really like Kiama and Berry Mountain, the TT has the right length.
Last tip: the finish line in Camberra's stage just after a double 90 degrees corner is a killer choice |zome3

Second Place - 4 points: Pr8 (maps/tours/view/8213)
Great race. Right balance between uphill and discent finishes with the classic Herald Sun Tour arrival of Arthur's Seat and Woodend; however, I would have opted for a easier stage before Mount Donna Buang.
Ok the TT and the circuit of the final stage.

First Place - 6 points: Dennis1107 (maps/tours/view/8132)
No mistakes in the route, right balance between flat, hilly and TT stages, everything is alright.
I like Sydney stage with its hilly route, Port Kembla with two hard climbs and Cambewarra Lookout. Kudos to you for having opted for an uphill final in Canberra, on Black Mountain.
Imho this is the best route :beer:

Let's start with my reviews, penalty and - finally - the votes. I will post it in more posts due to different moments of reviewing and post sizes.

Penalty Scale
- Unpracticable start/finish/stage portions: 5 points (for each one)
- Violation of UCI Rules: 10 points
- Not placing sprints and/or refuel: 3 points
- Long transfers: 5 points (for each one)
- Violation of the contest rules: 50 points penalty (maximum)

Design choice seems to be good. The arrive of Cuddle Creak is clearly not practicable due to space (it's a way to a private house). Even the second finish is in the middle of nowhere, you cannot see the road from Satellite. Paracombe is the same, finishing in a dirty road of a private farm. Doing for times Willunga hill is a lack of fantasy. In addition to that, you didn't place any sprint or refuel. I am still surprised by the fact someone voted this route as his first choice. 28 points penalty

First notice: stage 5 is 245 Kms long, a clear violation of UCI rules (max 240, we are not in a GT). I personally like so much the first stage. Baw baw it's a monster in this route, it's like having a little Mortirolo or Zoncolan in it, will clearly has an huge impact probably overcoming the ITT by far. I like the choice of dirty roads but as i said the stage it at least 50 kms longer than it should have been. I think there is a problem in the last stage: in any case, a sprint stage isn't good in WT short races (only really few has it) but if you do it, like TDU, at least use a circuit and not a long transfer stage. 10 points penalty

First of all: transfers. I can barely accept Traralgon to Healesville (153,7 Km by car) and Mount Baller to Violet Town (125,6 Km) but the last transfer is really exagerated and not justified (we are not in a GT). First stage has sprints with no locations, second stage doesn't have them. You should've taken all the time inserting them instead of submitting your route a LOT earlier. In Albury you did a sprint with TWO useless 90° turn in the last Km arriving at the end of THIS small alley between two houses https://prnt.sc/if56gx . About Table top, i like the idea of the ITT, not to ending it in the middle of nowhere naming the finish as a bus stop. The stage of Murray Gorge is a little piece of art with an unpracticable section leading to a sprint with no name that is currently driven back and forth on the same road with a KOM sprint double and a finish in a narrow road in the middle of a forest. About canberra, see Paganini and don't place the finish 20 meters after a turn. 10 points penalty

Not much to say to this route. Ok for the first two stages even if I would've preferred first stage to sprinters as you are denying them the last. There are no errors in the route even if I am thinking is not hard enougth for 22 Kms ITT in the end. No penalties

I can't go over the fact that the transfer to Benalla is over 300 Kms in the middle of the race. Phesant Gully stage ends on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere. About stage 3, i won't paralyze Australia Capital for a middle stage. Arrive on the Threbdo Pass has no sense: there is just the road, no space, not even a ski station. In Healesville you arrive in the service road of the church, on the dirt. This won't cost a penalty, but I am speaking about balancing routes for ITTs and Climbers and you insert a CTT in the final, the best gift you can do to climbers? Seriously? You also forgot to place sprints. 18 points penalty

Transfer from Perisher Ski Resort is long but not so long to have a penalty. I like the first stage, ok for the choice of finish on Keira. I think the balance is good, route is not hard as expected but better than the normal one. The final stage, instead, exceed UCI rules about circuit on the first circuit (and is at limit about the second one) 10 points penalty

Ded-Moroz
Ok the choices for the first two stages, even if Teringie Hill is at limit. I really like someone with the "big balls" staying in Adelaide but the Mount Lofty isn't enought alone with removing Willunga Hill from the route. Anyway, there are no big errors. No penalties

Lorenzo.Tripodi
There are two transfers on the map that are just "WTF. DID YOU REALLY MAKE THAT" and I don't even know to report you what they are because it will be clear as soon as you see the map also to Andrea Bocelli. First of all: can I precisely ask what the hell are these? https://prnt.sc/if5zxs second thing: how do you assign KOM cats? How could hillview be 1st and Randell being harder than marble hill? For the rest the route is not wrong but you simply tried to insert 3 MTF and hope it will be good. About Sidney stage, Read Paganini, this one is not admittable. https://prnt.sc/if659p . Even there, i am suprised someone voted this route as first. 15 points penalty

At first impact the route sounds good, at least there is some good ideas behind it. Short stages, ITT before the rest, opening for sprinters. Even if it doesn't convince me fully, this route is good without any errors. No penalties

Rmax85
One of the best routes until now with no errors and difficult increasing during the race until the summit finish. I personally would've done the Donna Buang with no other 1 Cat climbs before and shortened to 25 Kms the final ITT. No penalties

PesalluV1
I think Three stages > 200 Km at this point of the season are really too much. We have a serious problem in the ITT: doing a circuit three times. Not safe for riders and team cars, not safe for comprehension of the results an in addition to that you cannot have the starting pad in the middle of the race. I don't really like the idea of Donna Buang being climbed twice in two days and the MTF even in the final stage. Also ITT is too short compared to the difficulties there. 5 point penalty

PesalluV2
First thing i notice: "WHAT THE HELL?". The idea of going into Tasmania is really, really bad because it involves a long transfer really bad do to in the middle of a 6 day race. The Mount Wellington ITT completely made the route unbalanced for the climbers 5 point penalty
