Contest #5 - Battle of the North
Contest #5 - Battle of the North
As many of you knows, in 2021 there will be a new Women race of 10 days, the "Battle of the North"
According to the rules
The type of the race can be what you want. Can be a race for puncheurs, for classic riders, for GC riders and so on. The important is to present unique route showing the territory.
Would not give you more constraints on it, but I suggest you to look past races in these zones to find stages you can do.
Race shall end on a sunday. You are allowed to insert a rest day only between stage 5 and 6 (not before, not later) in case you need a transfer.
Deadline will be June 27, h 23.59
Please put ALL the routes under spoiler tag in this topic
People using correctly spoiler tags will get +1 bonus to be added to the presentation bonus.

What I want from you is to create the men's race. So a race of 10 days going in these three states (Denmark, Norway, Sweden). The event is expected to include 10 days of racing in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. It will also combine three existing races: the four-day Ladies Tour of Norway, the one-day Vårgårda World Cup in Sweden, and the Danish stage race PostNord Danmark Rundt.

Re: Contest #5 - Battle of the North
Here is my run. I chose the month of June as the period of execution because I decided, for the reason you will read, to have the final stage of Bergen run very late in the evening (in the Norwegian town in June the sun sets at 11 pm). The race days are 11, because I inserted a rest between the Swedish and Norwegian stages

The concept is a Paris-Nice / Tirreno-Adriatico type of race, focused on the hill specialists and not really for the true climbers, since they have the Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse. There is a rest/transfer day after stage 5.
I apologize for the tunnel elevations on the profiles, but the tunnel option on the tracker didn't seem to work. They are obvious to spot, but it does make the profile a bit ugly at times.

Philosophy
The Northern Tour was designed as an open tour. 4 stages are purely dedicated to sprinters, the 6 others will decide the winner. Speaking of the winner, it would certainly be a complete riders with punching skills. The first ITT will be fast and the moutain top finish has nothing to envy to the a Tour de France type finish. There will be no time bonifications along the tour, the winner will be crown only on his real time.

Re: Contest #5 - Battle of the North
I, personally, do not use the LFR editor to create the routes exactly for the reason you say, quite often it does not work. To make the routes I use RideWithGPS, but any other route editor from which you can export GPX should be fine. Then I upload the GPX file and then edit the intermediate sprints in the LFR editor.

Re: Contest #5 - Battle of the North
My Battle of the North! My first time doing this.
maps/tours/view/18994
Stage 1: Åre > Åre (200km)
A calm and collected start to the race. Only difficulty on the stage is Vargtjärnen (6km - 4%) which comes in the second half of the 200km long stage. Other than that it is a flat roll up to the finish line where the sprinters fight for the victory.
Stage 2: Åre > Trondheim (156,5km)
A slow start to the stage as the riders ride a false flat up to Storlien where the sprint points are given out. After that it is a decent to Meråker, where the riders start the flat roll up towards Trondheim. In the closing kilometers there are some small unclassified climbs before the last and desisive climb up to Saksvik (2,3km - 5,2%)
Stage 3: Oppdal > Trollstigen (193,5km)
The first mountain top finish will take place on this day. The mythical Trollstigen (8,5km - 7,8%). With it's spectacular scenery Trollstigen takes the rider up to 696 meters above sea level. The climb is not a long one, but for sure a hard one. The gc contenders will really test each other here, and time differences is inevitable.
Stage 4: Hellesylt > Dalsnibba (141km)
With two major climbs in the last part of the stage, this is set to be the queen stage. The first major acent is Strynfjellet (12,1km - 7,2%) which will really break some of the gc contenders. After the first climb it is 40km pretty much flat before the last acent of the day. Dalsnibba (4,7km - 9.5%). Everything will be put on the line on this climb. The riders will be taking the short side of Dalsnibba, instead of the 21km - 7,2% side of it. But that does not mean it won't be fireworks.
Stage 5: Lom > Fagernes (212,5km)
On the map a very though day, but it will depend on how the riders race it. The climbs of the day is only in the first 115km, so the sprinters who can climb have a solid chance today.
Stage 6: Gol > Hønefoss (137)
On the map it looks like an easy day, but in the last 40km there is some unclassified climbs who can break some of the sprinters. But even if the sprinters feel fresh in the finish, it will be hard to beat the puncheurs opp Riperbakken (800m - 6.4%)
Stage 7: Hønefoss > Asker (111km)
The last day in norway is for the stronger sprinters. With 4,8km - 4% it can be difficult for the pure sprinters to win. The day ends at 335meters above sea level.
Stage 8: Hirtshals Circut (104,5km)
At the first danish day of the tour it is a cirteriums race. With 13 laps around Hirtshals, it should end in a mass sprint. Notice the bonus sprint two laps before the finish line.
Stage 9: Aalborg - Støvring (39km)
A last chance to make up lost time. A 39km time trial is on the plan. The time trial is not vey technical so the roulers could be in for a win here.
Stage 10: Støvring > Aarhus (120km)
The final day of Battle of the North. A flat stage with no particular difficulties. The finish line is on top of a rising false flat.
