2022 German Tour Contest

Post by Will4563 »

Some people requested a contest, so here there is one.

The contest is to make a Grand Tour (21 stages) in the German speaking countries. That means Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria.
The Tour should start in one of the capitals, and end in one of the capitals.
You need to visit a major city in every country.
You can't use keypoints of last years winner route: maps/tours/view/19704
The last stage has to be a road stage with a circuit.
And the route can't trespass to other countries.

You get 3 points for a presentation with pictures and description of the stages, and 1 point for correct use of spoiler.

Deadline is Sunday 11 of December 23:59 CET

Austria, South Tyrol and Luxembourg are also German-speaking, can they be included in the itinerary?

Of course Austria should be included (I just forgot to mention it).

You used Luxembourg and South Tyrol last year, so I don't think so.

I'm afraid not, because it's only the 19th biggest city in Germany, and isn't the capital. But we can consider it as a major city.

Here is my entry for the German Tour Contest:
maps/tours/view/22220
Spoiler!
Stage 1: Berlin (Brandenburger Tor > Berlin (Brandenberger Tor) 8km ITT Image
Short flat opening ITT in the German capital
Image
Image

Stage 2: Potsdam > Wolfsburg 206km Image
Flat stage with no particular difficulty, the first point towards the climbers jersey is up for grabs
Image

Stage 3: Braunschweig >Sankt-Andreasberg 161km Image
The third stage is more hilly, with a hilltop finnish, but none of the climbs is particularly steep and the best climbing sprinters may be able to be there for the finish
Image

Stage 4: Thüringen >Eisfeld 175.5km Image
Lots of hills on route, especially in the first portion of the stage. Should still end in a mass sprint
Image

Stage 5: Bamberg> Ansbach 172km Image
Another stage for the sprinters, allthough the cicuit in the end is technical in the start with narrow cobbled streets folowed by a short climb
Image

Stage 6: Nürnberg > Dachau 185.5km Image
Last chance for sprinters in a while
Image

Stage 7: Rosenheim > Berchtesgaden 155.5km Image
First real mountain stage with three steep 1st category climbs in the final 50km, close to the austrian border.
Image
Image Image
Image

Stage 8: Salzburg > Planneralm 128.5km Image
First stage in Austria is a short mountain stage, and the first with a Mountain Top Finish
Image
Image Image

Stage 9: Radstadt > Gerlitzen 169km Image
Last stage before the first rest day is really tough, three 1st category climbs and 2 2nd categories before the final climb, the HC Gerlitzen averaging just below 10% over 12.5km
Image
Image

Rest Day in Wien

Stage 10: Wien > Tulln an der Donau 44.5km ITT Image
After the rest day a long ITT awaits the riders, the route could be split in four parts. The first part is mainly uphill, the second part descending, third part consist of uphill false flat and the last part is flat straight roads after a short steep descend
Image

Stage 11: St. Pölten > Grieskirchen 166.5km Image
Stage for the sprinters
Image

Stage 12: Simbach am Inn > Schongau 218.5km Image
Riders are back in Germany for a long transistion stage west through northern Germany. Route is mostly flat but the climb 15km before the finish line give the pucheurs an oppurtunity to challenge the pure sprinters
Image
Image

Stage 13: Penzberg Image > Kitzbüheler Horn Image159km
Leaving Germany for good in this tour, entering back into Austria for a brutal final climb.
Image
Image
Image

Stage 14: Rattenberg > Sölden (Rettenbachferner) 154km Image
Hard mountain stage finishing below the Rettenbachferner glacier. One of Europes highest paved roads.
Image
Image
Image

Stage 15: Imst Image > Sankt-Gallen Image 182.5km
Open stage with many plausible outcomes, a strong breakaway could go all the way, attack on the 2nd categorgy 20km before the line, or a mass sprint. Route takes the rider over the Arlbergpass and down through Liechtenstein and into Switzerland and up to Sankt-Gallen.
Image

Rest day Vaduz

Stage 16: Triesen > Schaan 12km ITT Image
A short technical ITT through Liechtenstein with several short climbs.

Stage 17: Balzers Image > Fluelapass Image 137km
After the tt the riders face a fairly short but hard mountain stage finishing on top of the Fluelapass, with more bareable percentages than on the austrian MTFs.

Stage 18: Rapperswil > Emmetten 191km Image
Semi hard mountain stage with several short climbs, only one of the cliïmbs, the Ächerlipass, is longer than 6km. The final climb to Emmetten is just 4km, so to gain time attacks should come on the Ächerlipass.

Stage 19: Gersau > Sörenberg 206.5km Image
Final chance to create big gaps in the GC battle, even though its not a MTF the descend to the finish line is only 7.5km from the top of Glaubenbielenpass. Before the final climb the Sustenpass could tear down the riders with its almost 30km at 5.8%.

Stage 20: Sarnen > Thun 151km Image
A good chance for the breakaway as it is not clear which teams that should controll the race. The irregular climb just above 10 km before the give the GC riders a final chance to create gaps, but most likely its not hard enough to create any significant gaps at the finish line.

Stage 21: Thun > Bern 152km Image
Final stage ends in the Swiss capital Bern, with 4 laps of a 21.5km circuit, that should end with a mass sprint

Here's my route for 2022 German Tour Contest; I draw all new stages trying not to use the same places and key points of the last year's contest.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to post images and preview here.
