Stage 1: Affoltern im Emmental > Berne

Image

Le Tour starts in Switzerland, where "Emmentaler Switzerland" is produced, the race will also visit Fribourg region where Vacherin Fribourgeois semi-soft cheese is produced and then the stage finishes in Berne, capital of Switzerland and land of Berner Alpkäse cheese from raw alpine milks.
The race starts from a spectacular Emmental AOP Show Dairy where Emmentaler cheese with its typical holes, The king of the cheeses from Switzerland, is produced. The first half of the stage is relatively hilly while the second one is mainly flat finishing in Berne where the last km is uphill

Finish in Berne:

Stage 2: Berne > Gruyères

Image

Still in Switzerland the stage ends in Gruyères, home of the famous Le Gruyère Cheese known by its subtle and sophisticated taste produced in this land since 1115.

The stage is mostly flat but includes 3 handicaps, Jaunpass and Col des Mosses (1C) and the last km, which is uphill, in Gruyères. So true sprinters won't protagonists today.

Finish in Gruyères:

Stage 3: Lausanne > Lyon

Image

Le Tour enters in France with a flat stage finishing in Lyon and first chance for true sprinters to get a win. Le Tour goes through Gex, where Bleu de Gex cheese is produced. It's a creamy, semi-soft blue cheese made from unpasteurized milk in the Jura region of France.

Bleu de Gex:

Stage 4: Louhans > Pontarlier

Image

The stage finishes in Pontarlier, land of the famous Comté Cheese, one of the most popular AOC cheeses in France with arround 40000 tones of annual production with strong and slightly sweet taste. Other popular cheeses from Jura Region are Morbier Cheese, recognizable by the thin black layer separating it horizontally in the middle, and Vacherin Mont-d'Or.

The final 30 km includes Col de l'Aiguillon with percentages over 10%. Col de l'Aiguillon will select the group and probably there will be a reduced sprint finish in Pontarlier

Stage 5: Lac d'Ailette > Neufchâtel-en-Bray

Image

Flat stage across nothern France finishing in Neufchâtel-en-Bray, home of Neufchâtel Cheese, famous for ists heart shape and ancient production since XI century. The only handicap of the stage is Mont Ricard located 12 km before the finish line so it could eliminate some true sprinters.

Neufchâtel Cheese:

Stage 6: Rouen > Vimoutiers

Image

Normandie offers excellent cheeses, so today is an unavoidable appointment to the towns of Camembert, Livarot and Pont-l'Évêque which produce several of the most select cheeses in the world. The stage ends in Vimoutiers near Camembert, home of the Camembert de Normandie cheese, one of the most popular cheeses in France. Located in Vimoutiers, there is a statue of Marie Harel, farmer from Camembert inventor of Camembert Cheese.

The profile is quite flat but the second half of the stage is hilly including several côtes that could eliminate some true sprinters.

Stage 7: La Flèche > Châteauroux

Image

Flat stage across french countryside in a land of Châteaux, wines and lots of cheese. Today's stage will go through Indre-et-Loire home of Valençay and Sainte-Maure de Touraine cheeses, also near cheeses like Pouligny Saint Pierre with its pyramid shape.

Stage 8: Lignières > Saint-Amand-Montrond (ITT)

Image

Image
Decisive stage today. All rounders can get a bunch of seconds over pure climbers who will predictably lose time in this short timetrial but with long straights which will benefit specialists. The distance is short enough so it doesn't determinate the GC

REST DAY : Montluçon
Image

Stage 9: Montluçon > Super-Besse

Image

Hilly stage across Auvergne, home of Bleu d'Auvergne cheese, often used in salad dressings and pasta seasonings, and also it is a good cheese for snacking. Also the race will go through Saint-Nectaire, home of Saint-Nectaire, the cheese's name comes from the Marshal of Senneterre (a linguistic corruption of "Saint-Nectaire"), who served it at the table of Louis XIV.

Finish in Super-Besse:

Bleu d'Auvergne:

Stage 10: Saint-Flour > Rocamadour

Image
Flat stage finishing in the iconic village of Rocamadour, where it is located the sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which for centuries has attracted pilgrims from many countries, among them kings and nobles. It is also home of Rocamadour cheese made from goat milk. The stage is flat except several côtes including the final one in Rocamadour ( 1,5 km with 7% average) which is perfect for riders like Alaphilippe, Valverde, or Matthews.

Finish in Rocamadour:

THE PYRÉNÉES
Stages 11,12 and 13

Stage 11: Dax > Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

Image

First stage of The Pyrenees including two demanding cols in western Pyrenees, land of Ossau-Iraty cheese made from goat milk with its peculiar sour taste. This is the first serious mountain test among the favourites who will must show their downhill skills to open up gaps.

Col d'Arnosteguy:
Image

Ossau Iraty Cheese:
Image

Stage 12: Oloron-Sainte-Marie > Lac de Payolle

Image
Today's stage is probably the key stage of the Pyrenees. Attacking in the last climb Col du Tourmalet or even in its descent heading to Lac de Payolle could be essential for victory or Maillot Jaune. Le Gabietou is the cheese of The Pyrenees, a semi-soft cheese made with a blend of raw cow and sheep milks. Gabietou has smokey, sour and sweet peanut flavors.

Col du Tourmalet:
Image

Le Gabietou Cheese

Stage 13: Foix > Ordino-Arcalis

Image
Hard mountain stage with almost 8000 m denivel and summit finish in the famous Ordino Arcalis Ski Station, so important day for climbers who won't let this opportunity get away before next time trial.

Finish in Ordino:
Image

Stage 14: Carcassonne > Roquefort-sur-Soulzon

Image
Hilly stage across Parc Naturel Régionel du Haut Languedoc finishing in Roquefort-sur-Soulzon, home of Roquefort cheese, one of the most famous cheeses in the world. It is a sheep milk blue cheese from the south of France, and together with Bleu d'Auvergne, Stilton, and Gorgonzola is one of the world's best known blue cheeses. Only those cheeses aged in the natural Combalou caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon may bear the name Roquefort. The finish is uphill so riders like Gilbert or Matthews can be decisive

Finish in Roquefort-sur-Soulzon:
Image

Roquefort Cheese:
Image

Stage 15: Millau > Nîmes

Image
Flat transition stage that will take the riders from Millau, famous for its Viaduc de Millau the tallest bridge in the world, to Nîmes, the next start of La Vuelta. The GC guys will take a rest before tomorrow's time trial while sprinters will have another chance for victory.

REST DAY : NÎMES
Image

Stage 16: Avignon > Orange (ITT)

Image
Race against the clock. One of the most important stages in the tour, the last time trial before the Alps with an average distance so time gaps will not be huge and the race will be decided in the Alps. The route is flat, benefiting powerful riders on long straights, and technical riders in the bends.

This region's cheese is Banon, an unpasteurized cheese made from goat's milk and is circular in shape, wrapped in chestnut leaves.

Banon Cheese:
Image

THE ALPS
Stage 17, 18, 19, 20

Stage 17: Vaison-la-Romaine > Orcières Merlette

Image
This stage is ticked off by all the favourites, as it's a summit finish all climbers and punchers can benefit from the profile and create some gaps.

Finish in Orcières Merlette:
Image

Stage 18: Embrun > Pinerolo

Image
This stage is all about downhill, attacking in Colle di Pramartino or in its descent is essential in order to build up time gaps. The last descent is dangerous with steep slopes so it wouldn't be surprising to see favourites loosing time today.

This region's cheese is "Tome des Bauges", an uncooked pressed cheese made exclusively from raw cow’s milk. It can be distinguished by its thick, rugged gray rind.

Tome des Bauges Cheese:
Image

Stage 19: Grenoble > Courchevel Altiport

Image
This is the queen stage of Le Tour, the "Pièce De Résistance". Classic mountain stage in the Alps, with Croix de Fer, La Madeleine, and Courchevel finishing in the Altiport of this elitist ski station. It's the terrain for climbers and brave cyclists who want make history, but riders who aren't in condition could get caught out.

Near Grenoble there is a very popular blue cheese "Bleu du Vercors-Sassenage" similar to Bleu de Gex. The cheese has to be composed of milk from Montbéliard, Abondance or Villard cows. Near the finish in Courchevel, Beaufort cheese, made from raw alpine cow's milk cheese associated with the gruyère family.

Courchevel Altiport:
Image

Beaufort Cheese:
Image

Stage 20: Annecy > Plateau de Solaison

Image
Last effort of this Tour de France for the GC guys finishing in the HC climb Plateau de Solaison where Jakob Fuglsang won the overall classification of Critérium du Dauphiné in a spectacular stage. This is a marked day for climbers while sprinters will try to finish the stage before tomorrow's massive sprint in Paris.

Some cheeses of this region are Abondance Cheese, Chevrotin and Reblochon, a soft washed-rind and smear-ripened French cheese made in the Alpine region of Savoy from raw cow's milk.

Stage 21: Melun > Paris. Champs-Élysées

Image

The end of July only means one thing, the end of Le Tour. All cycling lovers are involved in a solitude feeling.
Anyway, Today is a celebration day for those who have finished this ancient and tough race. The winner will be crown in Champs-Élysées and his name will be saved in history.
Thanks for watching and see you in La Vuelta Contest!

Race start is Melun, home of Brie de Melun Cheese, which is said to be the ancestor of all Brie's which originated in the region of northern France known as Seine-et-Marne. It is an aromatic cheese with slightly musty and straw-like smells floating the air.

Paris-Nice

Post by pesallu »

Paris-Nice

Also known as « Course au soleil » or The Race to the Sun, as it runs in the first half of March, typically starting in cold and wintry conditions in the French capital before reaching the spring sunshine on the Côte d’Azur. Recently, Paris-Nice editions have softened and GC guys only have several stages and a time-trial so there are 4 flat stages and few opportunities for climbers. You will not find here that kind of race.

Running from Sunday March 5th to 12th 2017, the 75th Paris-Nice will be made up of 8 stages and will cover a total distance of 1176.65 Km kilometres.
- 3 flat stages
- 1 hilly stage ( station de Chalmazel)
- 2 Mountain stages ( Station du Mont Serein, Lac du Borèon)
- 2 individual time trial

THE ROUTE
Image

Stage 1: Amilly > Amilly

Quick prologue arround Amilly which will give the first GC with short gaps among favourites.

Image

Stage 2: Courtenay > Cèrilly

Flat stage in the center of France. As it's winter, windy days and low temperatures are frequent so it could be a treacherous stage.

Image

Stage 3: Châteauroux > Vichy

Flat stage with a 3 km Côte in the last kms which could be suitable for rouleurs. However massive sprint finish is expected.

Image

Stage 4: Gannat > Station de Chalmazel

First chance for the GC guys to create gaps. Also important day for the battle of the polka dot jersey. Probably, the stage will be decided in Col du Béal or in the final slopes in Chalmazel.

Image

Finish:

Image

Stage 5: Annonay > Privas

Flat stage with a hilly and nervous finish in Privas, ideal for victory of Matthews or Sagan.

Image

Finish:
Image

Stage 6: Vallon-Pont-d'Arc > Station du Mont Serein

Stage 6 and 7 are two decisive days in Paris Nice. The profile is mostly flat until the last 20 kms, where Col de Mont Serein starts. It's the only HC climb of the race so it will be important for the polka dot jersey and also for the GC favourites.

Image

Finish:

Image

Stage 7: Digne-les-Bains > Lac du Boréon

Last chance for climbers to open up gaps in the GC before tomorrow's TT over all rounders. It's an alpine stage, so snow, low temperatures can decide the race, specially in downhill on icy roads.

Image

Finish:

Stage 8: Nice > Col d'Èze

TOUR DOWN HARDER by Pesallu

Running from Sunday January 14th to Fridayy January 19th 2018, the Tour Down Harder will be made up of 6 stages and will cover a total distance of 921 kilometres.

[*] 1 Flat stage
[*] 2 hilly stages and one altitude finish in Black Mountain
[*] 2 high mountain stages with 2 altitude finish Lake Mountain, Falls Creek
[*] 1 individual time-trial 13,5 km

The Tour Down Harder will include a total of 14 mountain climbs or hills and altitude finishes ranked in fourth (4), third ( 2) , second (4) and first (4).

THE ROUTE

Image

The race will go through Victoria and New South Wales. The starting point is Phillip Island, near Melbourne, and the finishing point is Canberra, the Capital of Australia

Grand Départ
The MotoGP circuit Phillip Island

Image
Image

Stage 1: Phillip Island > Phillip Island ITT

Image
This Tour Down Under starts with a bang! The starting point is the astonishing Phillip Island Moto GP Circuit. The cyclists will take three laps to the circuit (13 km). The distance is long enough to create some gaps but it's short enough so that the GC is not decided.

Favourites: Tom Dumoulin, Geraint Thomas, Tony Martin

Stage 2: Inverloch > Bairnsdale

Image
First flat stage where sprinters will be have the leading role.

Favourites: Kittel, Gaviria, Demare

Stage 3: Traralgon > Healesville

Image
First test for climbers to reduce the gap over the time trial specialists. The race includes two major climbs, the last one is a 1st category climb, just before a fast descent to the finishing line. Those with downhill skills will obviously take advantage of the profile.

Favourites: V.Nibali, A. Valverde, R. Bardet

Last Climb:
Image

Stage 4: Yarra Valley > Lake Mountain

Lake Mountain Ski Station
Image

Image
High mountain stage with the first uphill summit finishing in Lake Mountain, one of the most famous slki resorts near Melbourne. The final climb is 20 km long with percentages above 10%, so it will be plenty of action.

Favourites: C. Froome, R. Bardet, V. Nibali

Summit Finish:
Image

Stage 5: Mansfield > Falls Creek
Falls Creek Ski Resort:
Image

Image
Last serious test in the race before tomorrow's stage in Canberra. The stage finihes in Falls Creek, 1st category climb. But before that, the peloton will have to ride across 200 km of hot plains which will dwindle the main favourites strenghts.

Favourites: C.Froome, V. Nibali, R. Bardet

Summit Finish:
Image

Stage 6: Canberra > Canberra. Black Mountain

The site of Canberra was selected for the location of the nation's capital in 1908 as a compromise between rivals Sydney and Melbourne, Australia's two largest cities. It is unusual among Australian cities, being an entirely planned city outside of any state, similar to Washington, D.C. in the United States.
Image

Aereal views from the finish line in Black Mountain, Canberra:
Image

Image

It looks the typical final celebration dull stage, but it's not. This tour will end in Black Mountain, Canberra. It's a 2nd category climb with 3 km long but the percentages are over 9% so it is ideal for puncheurs

Favourites: A. Valverde, J. Alaphilippe, M. Matthews

Last climb:

TOUR DOWN HARDER V2 by Pesallu

Running from Sunday January 14th to Friday January 19th 2018, the Tour Down Harder will be made up of 6 stages and will cover a total distance of 913 kilometres.

2 Flat stages
1 hilly stage
2 high mountain stages with 2 altitude finish Ben Lomond Ski (6 km gravel road), Mount Buffalo
1 individual time-trial 21 km (Mount Wellington)

The Tour Down Harder will include a total of 23 mountain climbs or hills and altitude finishes ranked in fourth (9), third ( 7) , second (4), first (2) and Hors Categorie (1).

THE ROUTE

Image
The race will go through Tasmania and Victoria. The starting point is George Town, in the north of Tasmania, and the finishing point is Albert Park (Melbourne), the Capital of Victoria State.

Grand Départ
Tasmania Island

Image

Stage 1: George Town > Launceston. Tasmania
Image

The stage is mostly hilly. The lasts 30 km include three minor climbs which it will eliminate pure sprinters. Matthews, Gerrans or Sagan are the men to watch. It`s a tribute stage for Richie Porte, who was born in Launceston.

Final climb in Launceston:
Image

Stage 2: Launceston > Ben Lomond Ski

Image
Tasmania's premier Alpine skiing operations are located at Ben Lomond with downhill skiing facilities in the State. Jacob's Ladder (zig-zag road to Ben Lomond Ski Station) has been made notorious as the steep training ground for Tour de France cyclist Richie Porte and is featured as a cycling destination in itself.

Image
First chance for climbers to create gaps in the GC over time trialists before next time trial in Hobart. The final 6 km are gravel roads similar to Colle delle Finestre. The final climb is quite irregular with several rest km following hard slopes sectors
Image

Stage 3: Campbell Town > Glenorchy

Image
Hilly stage across the center of Tasmania. The second half of the stage goes parallel to the sea so crosswinds could be as decisive as high mouintain stages

Stage 4: Hobart > Mount Wellington ITT

Image

Image

Ok, it's not a long flat time-trial, but it's still a time trial! Top favourites should have TT skills as well as mountain skills in order to climb this colossus, Mount Wellington, the only HC climb of the race

Quick transfer to Victoria State
Image

Stage 5: Omeo > Mount Buffalo. Cresta Valley
Image

After the Time trial there is a last chance to change the GC in Mount Buffalo, Victoria. It's a 1st category climb without high percentages but it's 25 km long.
Image

Stage 6: Mansfield > Melbourne GP Circuit

Image

Image

Fine, the leader of the race shouldn't take any risks this fast stage in Melbourne avoiding crashes. The race ends in Albert Park F1 circuit in Melbourne, so the stage favourites should be sprinters

THE ROUTE
Image

The route has been designed with realistic starts and finishes so there is room enough for podiums, press and team buses

Grand départ
Versailles
Image

Versailles > Versailles ITT
Image
The very first edition of Paris-Adriatico starts with a classic prologue in Versailles. Starting in Château de Versailles, this prologue will create the first GC. The route includes long straights so powerful cyclists like T. Martin or T. Dumoulin are clear favourites

Nemours > Château-Chinon

Image
The first half of the stage is mostly flat but the last 50 km are hilly with an uphill finish which is not very steep so it's ideal for cyclists like Alaphilippe or Benoot

Château-Chinon Finish
Image

Châtillon-en-Bazois > Vichy
Image
Flat stage with a nervous finish including two hills ideal for srpinters who want to test themselves for Milano-San Remo. Also, it could be the day for rouleurs in breakaways.

Vichy:
Image

Vichy > Super-Besse Sancy

Image
Image

This is the first serious test for the GC men although it's a medium mountain stage. There will probably be two races, one of them among the GC contenders and the other one it's for the victory. Previous winners here were Valverde in Tour de France 2008 and Costa in 2011 so it's perfect for puncheurs

Super-Besse finish:
Image

Le Puy-en-Velay > Monastère de Chalais
Image
Profile:
Image
This is one of the hardest stages in this Paris-Adriatico as it ends in a HC climb. Monastère de Chalais, 7 kilometres at 10% from Voreppe along a winding forest road. The atmosphere of the remote location is peaceful and conducive to meditation

Finish:
Image

Pont-de-Claix > Digne-les-Bains
Image
Today sprinters can be happy as a massive sprint is expected although they will have to suffer the first half of the stage. The Paris -Adriatico heads south looking for the sun and abandones the Hautes Alpes

Saint-Tropez > Nice
Nice:
Image

Image

Sanremo > Prato Nevoso

Image
Paris-Adriatico enters in Italy with a high mountain stage ending in Prato Nevoso where climbers must show their skills to create gaps over all rounders and TT specialists before next TT

Prato Nevoso:
Image

Mondovì > Genova

Image
This is the ideal stage for a breakaway win. It could be the day for puncheurs with good sprint skills like Van Avermaet, Gilbert or Valverde if there is a reduced sprint in Genova

Image

Monterosso al Mare > Levanto ITT

Cinque Terre:
Image

Image
One of the most important stages of this tour is today's time trial in Cinque Terre. 25 km long with a hilly profile will limit the posible gaps among cyclists so the race is open.

Firenze > Perugia

Image
Hilly stage across Tuscany ideal for puncheurs training for Ardennes classics.

Monteripido:
Image
Foligno > Prati di Tivo
Image
Image
Last high mountain stage of this tour but it's not the last time to open up gaps in the GC as tomorrow there's another summit finish. Today is the perfect stage for climbers to reduce the time lost in the TT. Cyclists will have to tackle with hard slopes and snowy low temperatures
Prati di Tivo:
Image

Teramo > Muro di Guardiagrele

Image
Paris-Adriatico ends with this spectacular mountain stage with 3 major climbs. The last one is Muro di Guardiagrele, with slopes above 30% this is one of the most iconic and hardest hill of Italia. The GC will have a last chance to turn over the classification as the last climb is hard enough to create 30" gaps.

Muro di Guardiagrele:
Image

Do you think Muro di Guardiagrele is not a proper place to end this Paris-Adriatico? Then watch it by yourself

Giro d'Italia by pesallu

As the giro d'Italia approaches, I have designed a diferent giro without the traditional alpine stages. Instead of the conventional south-to-nord giro, the race will start in Trieste, in northeastern Italy lying between the Adriatic Sea and Slovenia. The race will head south to Sicilia just before moving back to the peninsula in the Abruzzos and Lazio.

Vuelta a España 2K20 Contest by Pesallu

It is an honor for me to present in the Hall of expositions my proposal for La Vuelta contest 2020. The first aim of my routes are not winning contests but to provide a realistic and inclusive cycling tracking experience, offering route maps (one of my kinks), parcours, profiles and images of landscapes of the course.
Running from Tuesday, October 20th to Sunday November 8th 2020, La Vuelta will be made up of 18 stages and will cover a total distance of 2864 kilometres.
5 flat stages
4 hilly stages ( 1 summit finish: Monte Samiño)
7 mountain stages ( 5 summit finishes: Port Ainé 2000, Cerler, Collada Taranes, Cuitu Negru, Bola del Mundo)
2 individual time-trial stages (total of 47 km)
2 rest days ( after stage 4 and 11)

THE RACE
Image

All Departs and Arrivées have been strictly revised so there is enough place for La Vuelta infrastructure including podiums, team buses, signature area and free area for medical helicopter landing.
As la Vuelta is celebrating in the end of october climate is decisive. The course starts in Canary Islands where temperatures in october are over 20º and no snow expected in high altitude. Temperature in the mediterranean coast is over 23º. The Pyrenées stages temperature expected in october are between 11º-18º and it is not likely snow. Finally, temperatures in nother coast of Spain is 18º average in october. Summit finishes over 2000m could include some snow, nothing new on other races like Tirreno-Adriatico and Il Giro, so it will not alter the race as Spains autumn is very mild and realatively hot.
Included bonification sprints: 10" for 1st, 6" por 2nd, 2" por 3rd.

In Tenerife you can do anything you feel like any day of the year thanks to its climate, natural surroundings and tourist infrastructure designed for fun for all the family.

Profiles overview
Image

Stage 1: Costa Adeje > Costa Adeje ITT
Image
Short prologue in South Tenerife where good climate and temperatures are assured. The GC battle starts from day 1 with a 7 km prologue. We expect limited gaps in the GC.

Stage 2: Golf Del Sur > Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Image
Hilly stage ideal for specialists like Alaphilipe or Van Aert

Stage 3: Icod de los Vinos > Playa Paraíso
Image
So here we are, first serious test for the GC guys, 4 1st cat. climbs and 1 HC. Although it is not summit finish, we will see who is in shape who is not. Downhill skills will be essential.

Stage 4: Las Palmas de Gran Canarias > Maspalomas
Image
High mountain stage with severe climbs although the last one is 40 km before the finish line so it is the perfect day for a reduced group sprint finish and may be some gaps on the GC.

REST DAY: Transfer to Valencia

Stage 5: Valencia > Ferrari Land. Salou
Image
Flat terrain ideal for Sprinters, ending in Ferrari Land. An amusement park with supersonic roller coaster recently open. As the route goes near the sea and It is a very windy area all over the year, specially in autumn, echelons are very likely

Stage 6: Sitges > Barcelona
Image
Hilly stage in Barcelona and another chance for puncheurs to get a win
Barcelona

Stage 7: Barcelona > F1 & MotoGP Circuit de Catalunya ITT
Image
40 km TTwhere specialists like Thomas, Roglic, Dumoulin will have to create gaps in the GC before the high mountain stages. The distance is enough to change the GC but it does not determinate it. The TT ends with a lap in the Catalunya Circuit, home of the Formula 1 and MotoGP Grand Prix of Spain

Stage 8: Solsona > Port Ainé 2000
Image
First Altitude Finish ending in Port Aine at 2000 m high. Although it is not a very common climb in la vuelta, never been included, it is an HC Climb hard enough to create some gaps and make up the time lost in the TT
Finish:

Stage 9: Sort > Aramón Cerler
Image
Second pyrenées stage and second summit finish in a row. Cerler is not as hard as Port Aine but it still has interesting slopes and links several climbs with no plain terrain.
Finish:

Stage 10: Jaca > Pamplona
Image
Flat transition stage with several côtes in the final kms, nevertheless sprint finish is expected if wind doesn't creat echelons

Stage 11: Estella > Monte Samiño
Image
We enter in Euskadi with an exciting stage ending in Monte Samiño, an explosive climb with slopes over 10%, previous attack in Cota de ATxe (2km at 11%) could be the key for the win.

REST DAY: Zarautz

Stage 12: Zarautz > San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
Image
Hilly stage across Basque coast with spectacular landscapes. The ideal terrain for people like Sagan, Allaphilipe or VanAvermaet.

Stage 13: Santoña > Ribadesella
Image
Flat stage except the Mirador del Fitu 1st cat climb in the last 20km. Could be the day for a breakaway or a reduced sprint finish.

Stage 14: Comillas > Collada Taranes
Image
first stage in the Asturian High mountains and posibly the Queen Stage, as it includes long and hard climbs before the final climb.
Collada taranes is the hardest climb of Asturias and possibly one of the hardest of Spain. Its last 2 km at 20% including slopes of 32 % making the climb one of the stepest in Europe. The road is perfectly asphalted in scratched concrete:

Stage 15: Cangas del Narcea > Cuitu Negru. Valgrande-Pajares

Asturias says goodbye with a legendary stage with 10000 denivel. Very few stages in grand tours can do that. Penultimate effort but it is not the last one.
Finish:
Image

Stage 16: León > Medina del Campo
Image
Flat transition stage across the Castilla plateau where echelons could appear very easily and create more gaps than a mountain stage

Stage 17: Segovia > Bola del Mundo
Image
Last mountain stage ending in the iconic Bola del Mundo, included in 2010 and 2012 with spectacular results. Last 3 km of the stage are over 11% in scratched concrete which makes the climb even harder. Can you imagine a better place for ending la vuelta? Besides the terrain, The 2 bonification sprints in the last kms will add even more emotion.
Finish:
